Dupli-Color truck bed liner

#1 Post by David Homer »

Found a gallon of this on the clearance rack @wally world. Also got the last hopper gun off Harbor Freight's shelf. The instructions on the can state the covering may lift/peel if used over anything else but OEM automotive finishes or Dupli-Color primer. My cabs right now have a coat of black satin latex on them. I know some folks here have used this coating successfully, and was just curious whether or not it would work OK over the latex, or would I have to sand it down and buy some primer...

I want to get my O15TB done and ready before my Aug. 14-15 gig..

Hey David

I'd sand it down and follow the directions.

If it doesn't work I'll go in with you and split a a pail of Durtex if you don't have a use for a complete pail.

I plan on showing up that show and hear that Box play.

see ya

You're probably good over any quality oil based primer. Your typical latex I wouldn't trust to provide a durable foundation.

Guess I'll answer my own question... :?:

Went ahead and applied it over the latex w/no adverse effects. In fact last weekend I made an "error" w/the material.. The instructions said shake the can for two minutes before using.. Applied a couple coats w/the hopper gun, so-so results.. Came back to it this afternoon only to discover most of the "solids" were still in the bottom of the can. Mixed it all up and tried again. Very pleasantly surprised w/the results. Spraying it about 2 feet off the cab, it created a nice even texture.

If you shop wally world for truck bed liner, watch carefully. I found the Dupli-Color in one store, and that is water-based. Another store had Rust-Oleum, which is oil based. Prep w/both is completely different..

I used Duplicolor truck bed liner rattle cans on my 13 cu foot EBS/LLT sub.

To be honest, I wasn't impressed. The finish on mine feels like sandpaper.
