Newbie avid woodworker neophile at audio equip

#1 Post by barrajoe »

Hi,
I sure hope that I don't ask too many stupid questions. I work for a community center in TX and we are trying to set up a sound system for our large hall (120 w x 100 d x 24 h). Generally, we only set up a 60 x 60 space for seating in the front center of the space, but for weddings and dances we set up tables and seating around the perimeter. I have had suggestions that we use 2 rows of 4 JBL EON 510 powered speakers and that would be it. I have looked at systems for smaller areas ( our church) and we just got 6 EV2082S set up in 2 vert arrays and 2 monster BagEnd subs and 2-2000 watt amps. I obviously do not have that kind of budget, it would take way too many shoestrings to get something like that. Can someone help? I am looking at possibly 4 dr250's and 2 Tuba 24's. Does that sound even close? What kind of power do I need? I have a couple of small amps given to us by TCU in FortWorth. I thought about setting the Dr250's up in a short J and iff I needed more, I could always add.

You've got your top to sub ratio backwards. With T24s you'd run them 2:1 with DR250s, 1:1 with DR200s. T39s would be better, if you have room for them. DR200s are equivalent to the EV 2082.

Bill, thanks for the quick reply. I may have jumped the gun and purchased the wrong plans. If I build 4 dr200's or 250's how many t39's should I build? Our venues typically would not have more than 400 -500 people. Larger venues scheduled ( Shnae and Shane) are providing their own equip. How much power will I need to smoothly power this system?
Thanks dB challenged

For a balanced sound, 1:1 ratio for either, depending on the width of the subs. I would build as wide as storage/transportation allows, using cardboard mock-ups to determine the space needed. Using a decent quality cross-over and EQ, getting everything balanced and sounding good should be pretty easy.

FWIW, if this is to be a permanent install, go with t48s. They give the most bang-for-buck spent and are still very portable. Stack 2, V-plated, in the corners on either side of the "stage".
