Meet the new family

#1 Post by Chris_Allen »

I started my DR200's at least 9 months ago and build the driver horn. For whatever reason they stated like that until a couple of weekends ago. My wife took her class on a residential trip so I had the weekend to myself - unfortunately she also took the camera, so there are no build pics :(

These are only prototype 200's. The first horn stage was badly built and misaligned, so I spent little time getting them perfect. In all, including painting, it represents 14 hours work.

Image

I decided to experiment with a curved front.

Image

They were built using the Beta 8 driver rather than the delta - the beta has a very (and I mean very!) weak frame which bent easily and would not recommend it for a DR200 (Although it sounds fantastic!)

Image

I was rather surprised at the overall depth of these cabs.

Image

For comparison, the T39's are 15" wide.

Image

They have had only 1 gig so far and I was very impressed. I thought they were a little bright but I am using the Beta which is a couple of dB's less sensitive than the Delta.

Very light but a funny shape to pack.

I have another gig this weekend, so I'll give a full run down after that. The DR200's out pace the T39's quite easily.

Now that is a sleek looking PA system. Good work!
I really love that writing on the T39's, ever think of doing it to the 200's?

Beautiful. Thanks for the inspiration, my build has been very slow. So the two T39 do not match one DR200? What size are your T39?

Is that a Holden in the driveway?

Awesome speakers by the way, very pro looking... I'm a fan of grilles for a few reasons and yours are the best execution I've seen here.

Possibly - What's a Holden? :D

The T39's were 3/4" roundoff, the DR200's were 1/2". I didn't install protective corners so didn't need to follow a depth.

I meant that 2x DR200's don't match 2x T39's when:

a) Using BP102's
b) You EQ the subs flat by dropping 60-100 by 4-6 dB.

Yes, but the usable area on the side of the DR is only 19". Using a 20mm router guide collar and a 12mm bit, 5 characters ('DR200') would be a tight squeeze and cutting the template would be a real pain in the backside.

I'll still probably do it. :D

I took them to the practice room last night to find the handles on the side have a bit of a rattle where they lever. When everyone is playing you can't hear it - but it's still annoying.

Does anyone know of a stiff lubricant as the ones that rattle have a lot of play.
