Dreams do come true

#1 Post by Haysus »

Eventually I want to contribute useful info to repay all that I have learned thus far.
Without further delay hear is the review.
The band has drums, bass, guitar, keys and 4 vocals.
They play classic rock to top 40.
I have ran sound here before with JBL tops and the T39'scentered clustered in front of the stage. The room is roughly 20'x60'x18'. The sound was always muddy and I had to do a lot of fader pushing to get everyone heard FOH. Actually it has been this way for years. Monitors are WH's loud and clear but here stage volume gets cloudy and they always ask for more. This gig I boundary loaded the T39's and immediately noticed a BIG difference. Lot's of funny looks but great sound. The Dr200's. WOW! Are you kidding me.The bottom is a mellded array and the top is a straight array.Clean and clear.
I heard everything in the mix perfectly balanced. The band asked what I changed in the monitors. Honestly replied nothing. No feed back the entire night, I get a ring once or twice a night with the old system.
Having great speakers makes my job as a novice sound guy(10years) that much easier. The amps were barely on and I head room out the wazoo. FYI keep the tops elevated they can rip ones head off. Big thanks to Bill for all his work.If there are any newbies out there don't wait any longer. Make some sawdust and reprogram the way you think about sound you will not be dissapointed. I do need 2 more T39's to keep the ratio 1:1. In this room 2 Dr200's was very ample but it is also one of the only clubs I can set up the whole system.

Haysus, nice setup. Some better(more!) pics of your cabs would be cool :D

Without checking the boundary reinforcement sticky, are those subs too close to the wall?

Good time to check. My interpretation of the placement sticky was this is optimum least floor space non Vplated positioning:

Image
Two subs vertical facing away from each other and 30 deg off the wall with the rear corners together and hard against the wall. Maybe this is only for tubas on their sides not titans vertically?

In the OP case one would be pointed at the bass player and the other into the room. Real hinky in other words, which makes me think I am misinterpreting things.

I would have thought coupled vertically but pointed at the wall from the requisite distance like this but vertical titans minus vplate:

Actually, the bottom cabs are crossfired, not melded.

That's because of the super wide dispersion. I used those cabs many times with no monitors for the guys up front. You can hear yourself very well, they definitely add to the monitor mix.

Yes there is some bad practices and placements. I have to contend with my own relearning curve in addition to the stuborn know it all's combined with it just doesn't look right crowd(bar owners)and space limitations. Sometimes I get so frustrated I want to open my own music venue/bar so I don't have to hear others whine and concentrate on the fun stuff.
I appreciate the feedback. It really does improve the shows that I run listening to the forum.
