Duratex question

#1 Post by EricD-JEPro »

If we apply duratex to the bottom of large subwoofer cabinet, how long should we wait before setting down the cabinet on that side to do the rest of the box?

Depends on the environment, but when it's dry to the touch, it ok to put it down. Just don't scrape it around, as it takes a while for the DuraTex to fully harden.

For Duratex to fully cure can take up to a week. Dry time is very fast, cure time is very slow. You should not set it on a surface it can stick to for a couple of days, it can still be blocky. I install corner protectors and sweep the area to set the cabs in. The protectors hold it just enough off the floor.

.027 on an airless rig at minimum pressure that will still spray and keep up. Takes a pro level airless to spray this stuff.

On a hopper gun I used the smallest tip. I prefer the airless for control.

+1, I cure mine in the sun, with clear plastic sheeting suspended around it as a mini greenhouse. If you get white spots from outgassing they'll disappear with wiping with a damp rag.

So basically if you apply the Duratex to 5 sides, you'll have to wait a few days before you can flip it over and do the final 6th side?

See my post on the ht forum. The corner protectors are the best way, but narrow (1/2) wide strips work very well.

Do one side, drive in finish nails at the 4 corners(leave them half way out), flip on nails, do other sides. Drive nails on another side, and you can alternate sides when recoating. Pull nails, dab a little Duratex over hole, voila!
