Re: four t39 did the prom
I've got 2 15" T39's with BP102 - I wondering whether to double them up with 3012's or just stick with 102's. Where are the pics?

Built:
6xDR200, 2xT39, 2xT48, 2xJack110, 1xOmni10.5, 1xAutotuba, 1xT18, 1xSLA Pro, 1xW8, 1xW10

Re: four t39 did the prom
For your side of the pond, stick with the BP102s, IMHO. Once you get passed 4 drivers/cabinets, the extra expense may not be worth it. I am figuring 2 times the price difference between the BP102 and the 3012LF. BP102 = 57.98 GBP 3012LF = ~105 GBP (it's not listed yet, so I am estimating from the price of the 3015LF) All prices are taken from www.thomann.de. Is the extra expense worth the extra response? Only you can answer this.Chris_Allen wrote:I've got 2 15" T39's with BP102 - I wondering whether to double them up with 3012's or just stick with 102's. Where are the pics?

What was the size of the room and how many people?

Wow. I use three in an outdoor setting, and they are entirely sufficient.popafink wrote:Yes i could have used a little more!
Four indoors must have been killer loud.
My biggest worry is that when I'm dead and gone, my wife will sell my toys for what I said I paid for them.

The room is 100/200! Dont get me wrong it sounded sweet! I think the problem was not the t39. But that i ran out of amp!!! They sound great and dont worry if your not a woodworker(cause i'm not) and dont get everything dead on. They still sound great

The BP102 stops making more SPL at about 150w. You may have run out of driver.popafink wrote:The room is 100/200! Dont get me wrong it sounded sweet! I think the problem was not the t39. But that i ran out of amp!!!
I use eight T39S in a room that size. One long wall is the "front". I have a V-plated pair in each front corner, and four in a "W" in the middle of the front wall. With four, I might just used singles in the corner and a pair in the middle of the wall. Or I might look to put two V-pairs, spaced to cut the long wall into 1/3's. Decisions, decisions...

Re: four t39 did the prom
Perhaps there are cancellations going on that I don't experience outdoors.
OP, did you happen to get an SPL reading?
I'm curious as to how brutal the sound level was.
Four T39 is a lot of noise.

The Precision Devices 12SB30 is more cost effective in the U.K.Chris_Allen wrote:I've got 2 15" T39's with BP102 - I wondering whether to double them up with 3012's or just stick with 102's. Where are the pics?
"Performance is similar to the 4012"(BF) but costs approx half as much as the 4012 in the U.K.
The PD Has less power handling but higher sensitivity than the 4012 so Max SPL is roughly the same.
VD for PD12SB30 is 370ish 3012 is 500ish IIRC. Its not as good as the 3012LF, but is a lot cheaper.
If you want Max performance, then Beyma do a 900w 12' with 4" vc that can be had for £150 in the U.K.
or the 1000w ciare 12.00 SW can be had for £99.00 in the U.K (VD 563) http://www.proaudioparts.co.uk/ciare.asp
This is the recommended driver for the 'Punisher' Subs .

Re: four t39 did the prom
This summer when I have time on my hands I'm gonna set about building my big rig which will be 6 or 8 Ciare 12SW loaded T39's at 21'' width. The driver (from sims) goes a little louder than the 3012lf but is also much heavier, hence I'm not fully set on it just yet. From drawing up the side of a t39 in CAD for the CNC people it seems the driver should fit which looking at the size of the magnet was quite a concern.
Couple the 12sw power handling that makes it almost indestructible by any of my current amps, its proven quality/performance in the punisher horn and it will probably tip the balance for it, also at £99 it does seem like quite a deal.
As moo said the best price/performance ratio for a t39 in the UK is with the PD12SB30.

Ciare 12SW

did you observe the Ciare 12SW dimension will fit in T39? it looks thicker than eminence.

Re: four t39 did the prom
it fits, but at nearly twice the cost and 2.5 times the weight, the 2.4mm in xmax you gain is a poor return IMO
Re: four t39 did the prom
Over double thermal power handling, over 25% greater xmax, and the fact is going to be cheaper all make me think it could be a very worthwhile return over the 3012lf. Weight is the only issue but with good castors the t39 is rolled to most places, not carried.
Re: four t39 did the prom
Twice the thermal power over 450W is just going to get lost in thermal compression, you're really only left with the greater xmax, Vas is significantly smaller, I don't know enough to say if that is going to mean that it's going to help or hinder it.
But if f you you can really get it cheaper than the thing to do is buy one of each and report your findings.

Re: four t39 did the prom
Yeh power compression will come into it but from what I hear of the punisher there are still noticeable improvements to be had when driven with over 500W.
Its also power compression at the drivers maximum thermal rating that is the issue and from looking at the beyma site where a few drivers have PC charts, it seems to stay relatively constant (-5dB) at max rated thermal power be it a 1600W or 500W driver. So it seems likely the two drivers will have the similar amounts of compression at 450W and 1kW respectively.
I have been thinking about doing a test of the two drivers when I've completed the t39 enclosures, if I'm building 6 or 8 its probably worthwhile to take the small hit i'll suffer from having to resell one of the drivers as used. If I end up doing this I'll report my findings here.
