TITAN 48 test!!

#1 Post by z-audio »

Just finished an A/B comparison between a pair of titan 48 loaded with the recommended drivers 3015LF and onother pair loaded with JBL 2226H.Test was done outside with a live band. Both pair were driven on each side of an EV P3000 and crossed 40Hz-100Hz.IN ALL ASPECT OF SOUND THE 3015LF LOADED WAS THE WINNER!!!
To those who are planning a build, all i can say is FOLLOW THE PLANS AND RECOMMENDED DRIVERS!!!

wrong driver for the cab

The 2226H was never on the driver list for the T48 was it?
There is quite a bit of difference between the T/S of these drivers.
My understanding ( incorrect? ) was that the T48 was designed around the 3015LF and it's T/S specs, so the outcome of this comparison doesn't come as a surprise.

Somebody used the 2226 in t30's with pretty good results, way back when, BN (before neos). It probably works alright in a t48, but nothing beats a 3015. Best bang you can buy.
If it's too loud, you're even older than me! Like me.

I was unaware of that ( no surprise ). I have, however, seen the 2206 12's in a T30 ( sales page ) But not the use of other JBL - presumably because of the T/S differences, ( cost aside ).
Since the 2226H differs by greater than 15% in several parameters I would have expected it to be N/A for T48.
They are different drivers. Probably every knows ( or should ), There is no ideal driver that works in all cabs.
As optimal the 3015LF is in the T48, Others have been having problems when using these in other cabs. That's the result of treating all drivers of the same size equally and ignoring the fact T/S specs are the determinates.
But ultimately, if the driver doesn't have the best specs for the job it's not going to give the best performance in that cab regardless of how well it performs in another cab.
Thanks to z-audio for confining that in this listening test.
And that a 2226H is NOT a recommended driver for the T48.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like the PA tops were stacked horizontally (side by side) instead of vertically?

I know its totally wrong :D .The 2 ot115 on the opposite sides (with the compression drivers) are crossed 100hz-200hz from the titans and the ot215 on the center is from 200hz-1.5khz.Compression drivers are jbl 2446H's coupled to a 2385a horn.215 is loaded with jbl e130's and 115's with e140's.The titans,4 loaded with jbl 2226H and 2 with 3015lf.We left the 2 more unfinished titans with 3015lf at home.

You'd think with a setup that size and a nice big stage and all that the guitard would have tuned up.
