I have been through almost every style and brand of bass rig over the last thirty years. I play in a five piece group, piano bass, drums and two guitars. We do all original rock-blues and some country.I play a 34" scale five string with active EMG pickups.
The type of sound that I like the best seems to be the sound that I get when we have large PA support, but that is not always the case. I like a very full sound with just enough mid to cut through the mix.
My present rig is a DR250 on top of a reverse loaded HL10C Tuba24. I started out with a passive crossover and a Hartke 3500 for power, but soon realized that couldn't get the kind of low end that I needed. I switched to a Hartke 5000 Bi-amp unit that kicks butt. I can load the Tuba and back off the DR slightly to get the right balance. The other option would of course be a Titan39, but I don't seem to need it since I changed power amps. Overall I'm getting the kind of sound that makes the girls shake it and the glasses on the bar rattle. Clean and puchy.........I'm in Bass Heaven!!
