Anyone have Davids?
Anyone have Davids?
I've been searching through the forums, but haven't been able to find a review on the David speakers. Has anyone made a pair of these?
Thanks in advance!

Re: Anyone have Davids?
MY OPINION ONLY...I think the David's are outdated a little bit.I have not built them but aren't they like autotuba's with MTM on top. Most guy's tend to use SLA's or if you got BALLS the TLAH's with a sub in the corner.Bill has pounded the sub placement into our head's but the David's are the contrary.Try the line array's i know you'll be pleased.Over the years there has been a few that built them (david's) and they say they are good BUT for price I would like to see them up against TLAH's.

Re: Anyone have Davids?
I use Davids in my shop for music, and prefer it for music use over my TLAH/TT.

Not in a typically sized livingroom- or workshop.Bill has pounded the sub placement into our head's but the David's are the contrary

Re: Anyone have Davids?
Thanks for your response Shawn. I've made a couple of SLAs, and use them with an AutoTuba (see a review from last year). I wondered if their apparent lack of implementation on the forums was because Bill had designs that were more suitable for most people.
I think my next system will be two TLAHs and a Tuba 18 or a Table Tuba - my Fiance seems to be OK with the idea so far, so hopefully she won't change her mind when I actually get around to them!
The intent for the system is going to be for HT and music. I liked the idea of the Davids because they're a self-contained full-range unit, so they might be easier to place, and, well, they look quite cool too
Bill, are there any authorised builders of your HT designs in the states? I noticed that the builders list you have on the website are for PA/Instrument amplification.

They're authorized to build the entire line.Dan_S wrote:

OK, thanks Bill.
What characteristics of the Davids do you prefer for music listening when compared to TLAHs + a Sub?

Imaging, which is not the strong suit for a line array in a smaller listening area. Imaging isn't a real concern in very large spaces, nor in HT where what imaging there is comes from the center channel.Dan_S wrote:OK, thanks Bill.

Re: Anyone have Davids?
That's an interesting point, and was kind of along the lines of what I had in my head too. I've often been a fan of a pair of full-range speakers, so that the Bass comes from two sources. Apart from the accuracy seen in the subs of the Fitzmaurice series, I've often felt that standard commercial subs can feel somewhat 'separate' from the other speakers they support, for a number of reasons.
I think I may get a pair of Davids for my own studio/intense music listening purposes, and then use a combination of TLAH plus Table Tuba or Tuba 18 for the HT.
One thing I do like about the narrow dispersion of the SLAs on the vertical access is that it's quite convenient to be doing something else when you're outside of their intended sound field. I can see them being practical for instances where the phone rings, and to get away from the majority of the sound all one needs to do is to, well, stand up
I can see this characteristic having many practical purposes, and I'm sure many people already make use of them.

I found this review a while back. I'll be making a pair of david's next year after I move house and get set up again. Can't wait

Re: Anyone have Davids?
First post! Greetings all, my name is Dave and I was directed here from djforums. I've been reading bits on this forum for a few months and I like to think I've learnt something from it.
I am in a similar boat to Dan S. I was looking at building a pair of Davids but noticed that they are not very popular. Now I am considering building a pair of SLAs + AT. What advantages do the SLA / AT combo have over the David for music, apart from the obvious space and construction issues? Thanks!
