Titan39/Omni10.5 Combo

#1 Post by Alan Star »

I was going to wait until I had done the finish on all the cabs and had spent some time with the eq and gigged them a few times before I left a review but ... I already know i'm totally happy with them, so i thought, what' s the point, i'm already totally convinced, I don't have to wait for all that, because this set up sounds so good just as it is, with no eq, I know it's only going to sound better with fine tuning.

I absolutely could not be happier with this set up. I have had a couple play's with it running it off my xti's and also off some 12v amps for doing remote battery powered stuff, which is one of the intended uses of this set up. I have never heard volume like this coming from a battery powered set up !

So the intended use of this system is, to replace my mackie srs1500/rcfart310 setup, a small portable punchy system that I can easily fit in the back of this ...

Image

... and that I could easily run off one of these ...

Image

... or with a big battery or 2 and a couple car amps with built in xovers like this ...

Image

... and so this is what I decided to build ... (I'll split the tops on tripods for normal stereo use, I just set them up like this for a test run)....

Image

... thank you Bill ! Huge respect, 100% happy, will no doubt build more of both a bit further down the line.

Here's a few build foto's ...

I'm curious if the lack of space between the pole vent and the cover would be problematic. On my O10, I have about 1/16" clearance.

What driver are you using in the 10.5? I have S2010 (neo) and have absolutely no clearance problems. :D Good looking build though! And thanks for the good report...gives one some ideas

I've never had a problem with the gap on the ones I have made.

Using the 2510. I checked all my dimensions and they seem correct.

Be sure the driver gasket is fully compressed. The neoprene gasket on the 2510 will gradually compress, and when fully seated the frame will have only a millimeter or so clearance to the baffle. 1/8" clearance is adequate, though if you're concerned you can rout the back up to 1/4" deep where the donut is. That also allows fitting a piece of speaker carpet on the back behind the pole piece vent to damp midrange reflections back to the dome for smoother mids.

Thanks, I'll do something like that.

Yes' the 2510, I don't think it's problematic, there is enough space there, i guess wouldn't hurt to rout a bit out anyway just to make sure.

Wood variety makes a difference too. Euro 12mm plywood is a bit thicker than US 1/2" plywood.

Question: I can see your O10.5 and they are ported, but for use with sub the port is no necesary, ¿or i am wrong? By the way, nice equipment you have, congrats.

I know, I have decided to leave them ported for the time being as I may use them stand alone sometimes, I am thinking I can always make a small plate to screw across the port from the inside of the box to seal them off if I want to. They also seem to work fine as they are tho. Thanks.

Ah ok, yes, I was using 12mm. There's no audible problem with it, there is about 1/8" clearance I think, so I guess is ok .

so is US ½" ply less than 12mm??

I could in a pinch believe that the ½" is less than it's nominal size and the euro 12mm more, so that the poor folks in the shop in chile and china don't have to retool
to sell to different markets

Yes, it is...sort of. The "half inch" ply I use is really 15/32" which is 11.90625 mm.
