Urethane adhesive in the UK

#1 Post by David W »

Just finished the main carcass of my first Autotuba today and very happy I am too...it all fits together nicely, the driver fits and I even managed to get all the dados right!! No problems with the build then and also my first experience using urethane adhesive, as recommeded by Bill. Unfortunately PL construction adhesive isn't available in the UK so I had to do quite a bit of research to find a similar product that is available over here, but after many hours of googling I found these 2 products. I settled for Joiners Mate by Geocel and it seems to exhibit all the characteristics of PL - including the dreaded ooze!! It certainly makes a huge difference from previous builds where I have used PVA and had the usual long drawn out build because of not wanting to work on something that is still not dry - not with this stuff though...an hour later and I was putting it through the table saw and running a router over it - cool!! So if any UK builders want to go the urethane way, the links are below - and one final word of warning...DO NOT GET IT ON YOUR HANDS!! It is an absolute nightmare to remove once it is dry, as I am now discovering

Happy building!!

Thanks for that info!

I also bought a table saw from them so they owe you some commission in my books. :D

This is the stuff I used for my last pair of DR's

It was a little better than the Screwfix adhesive but is also a little cheaper
(I was given a box free from a joiner pal so didn't cost me a penny... :D )
