Re: break in CD
I haven't heard of a specific "break in" CD. If you can connect a computer to your amp & speakers, it's easiest to just use a sine wave generator like the freeware SigJenny http://www.natch.co.uk/downloads/SigJenny/SigJenny.html
If you want to use a CD, you can use sigjenny to generate a wav file and burn that to CD. Alternatively, you can download the image for "Bink's Test CD" which includes test tones and sweeps - find the 30hz track and set it to repeat.

sounds good but I thought I had seen here on the site somewhere that there was a burn in cd you could download and create

This is the one I've seen referenced here in the forums occasionally:rec wrote:sounds good but I thought I had seen here on the site somewhere that there was a burn in cd you could download and create

Re: break in CD
I followed the technique suggested, and had 1 hour of 31.5 Hz on Audacity. Then I burned it to a CD, and for some reason it is only 35 min. long.....but that is OK too, ie, I don't mind. But, why do I get all the harmonics, ie, it is not a pure 31.5 Hz tone?
Just curious, that's all. BTW, the cone is jumping up and down, and getting right around 10.5V average. And it is not in a cab.

Re: break in CD
I just checked a sample of a tone Audacity produces vs one that Cooledit produces and except for output levels they were indistinguishable, and I heard no harmonics.
So i suspect the problem is else ware. Double check what Audacity is generating and the output levels etc ( the obvious )
What does the CD sound like through other speakers, or headphones

MP3 through PC audio might explain it.tammojsmit wrote:why do I get all the harmonics, ie, it is not a pure 31.5 Hz tone?

Re: break in CD
Download it and burn it directly to CD. Just fill the CD up with the same track over and over. Mine is clean with no harmonics at all.
Re: break in CD
pretty much sounds the same...on the cpu speakers (crappy 2"er's), ghetto blaster, etc. I wasn't too much concerned.Sydney wrote: What does the CD sound like through other speakers, or headphones
Just tried a new "project" and it sounded ok...might just burn another cd.
Thanks for the help!

Re: break in CD
I found that when I burned a track over and over, I got slight full range pops between the tracks. Might be different for you, but FYI, it is a little annoying. not a big problem though, still did the job for breaking in. Probably not great for testing.Download it and burn it directly to CD. Not in this context, but in similar editing jobs - and it is annoying,I found that when I burned a track over and over, I got slight full range pops between the tracks. Might be different for you, but FYI, it is a little annoying.
If It is not a repeating waveform & I can't get the program to produce a desired long length directly ( easy in theses programs ) -
I build up a big track by using something like Cooledit or Audition to highlight a clean waveform at the zero cross line, and copy/paste to the EOT, doubling the length, and repeat until you reach desired final length I ( the copied part is doubling each time so it doesn't take but a few seconds to build.
Re: break in CD
If you were to zoom in on where the breaks are, you might find that the waveform is not clean...part wave tagged onto the next wave. I had this happen to me when I cut and pasted. All that you need to do is cut out the bad wave(s), either at the top centre or bottom centre...doesn't matter as long as the result very closely resembles a proper wave.novasak wrote: I found that when I burned a track over and over, I got slight full range pops between the tracks.

Re: break in CD
How long do you generally loop the 31.5Hz track until the the speakers are properly broken in, 8 hours, 24 hours? Thanks.
