I went over to another church in Denver tonight and helped improve the sound as equipment would allow. Mostly we used the RTA off the DEQ and got things dialed in. The room was long front to back with brick walls, peaked hardwood ceilings and painted drywall at the back of the stage. Fairly live room but still small enough that comfortable monitor levels on stage meant a good amoutn of volume out front with the mains off. Right now speakers include a 4-pack of Yamaha club series 12"+horn monitors that did okay after EQ, a pair of 15"+horn like the SV115's and a single 18 sub centered at the back of the stage.
My first thought after we got the EQ completed and played some music back through the system was how absolutely spoiled I am between the portable rig and the OT12's installed at church. The bottom end was there but tubby and undefined. It was just a night and day difference in terms of overall clarity. The EQ work made a good improvement on the mains but they still couldn't touch the OT12's.
I took a half system out Sunday evening in a smaller room that sat ~150. I let another friend run the system while I sat back and enjoyed the music. His comment afterward was that the OT12's and single T48 I brought was the most incredibly clear and balanced small system he'd ever had to work with. I've gotten to taking the low-end authority and clarity I get from the T48's for granted. It's nice to have an occasional reminder of just how fortunate I am to be running a BFD system.
In short. Bill's the man. Thanks for providing us with designs that so severely put to shame anything else I could hope to afford.
Comparison, well, none really.
