You guys probably groan every time some new guy asks about alternatives to duratex, but here goes -
Anyone have any experience or an opinion on herculiner bed liner material for finishing cabs? It's sold locally in smaller quantities than 1 gallon.

I used some of the Duplicolor rattle can bedliner on an effects rack and it hasn't done well enough to justify the $8/can price. However, if memory serves, Herculiner was one of the first after-market companies to enter the fray. I say try it and let the rest of us know.
I'm not a musician, but I play one in a band.
I can do that! If it doesn't work, I can always sand it and do duratex on top, I guess.try it and let the rest of us know.
Edit: Of course, like Tim says, this cold weather is bumming me out. 4 inches of snow last night, and temps in the mid 20s may cause me to wait a week or two before trying to finish this thing.

I'm seeing price around $25/qt... that's expensive! Twice the price of Duratex...wespaul wrote:You guys probably groan every time some new guy asks about alternatives to duratex, but here goes -

It's 4X the price! Duratex is about $55 a gallon.klocwerk wrote:I'm seeing price around $25/qt... that's expensive! Twice the price of Duratex...wespaul wrote:You guys probably groan every time some new guy asks about alternatives to duratex, but here goes -

I used that for the top and bottom surfaces of my TT. Use it outdoors, it's stanky and noxious while you apply it and as it's drying. I got it at wallyworld because I didn't feel like waiting... makes a nice contrast to the stain on the birch.Tom wrote:I like Duplicolor roll-on bedliner. Roll on a coat, then spray to touch up. You need more base coat thickness than the spray can will deliver.
There is no technical problem however complex, that cannot be solved or finessed by a direct application of brute strength and ignorance.

I got some samples from Scorpion coatings that looks really good, comparable to Line-X but can be sprayed with ordinary hopper rig. Not sure yet about the price. I have not been impressed with the durability of Duratex, it would be worth 2x the price to me to get a finish that doesn't chip.
