Does anybody EQ the subs

EQ guys are using on their cabs/systems. A good starting place if you don't have your own RTA.

Does anybody EQ the subs

#1 Post by DAVID_L_PERRY »

I run my pair of titan 48's with no eq, and did the same with my last set of 6x15 JBL front loaded subs. Always been happy with the sound and output

How many people EQ the titans and if so what EQ have you done ?

I always assumed that trying to EQ the very btm end is almost impossibly using RTA (hence the reason the lower freq's are removed on Auto EQ)

I actually drop off the EQ curve below 60 Hz as I find it to be too much otherwise. That's more likely due to a bad stage bleed and impossible sub placement issues.

Chris.

Yes, I put a couple of filters on the DCX for the aux fed sub. I just tried to mirror Bill's posted SPL chart, I think I had something like +3db @50hz and -3db @100hz.

I have not done it yet, but I think a good way to check the sub response would be to use test tones either from a PC or something like Bink's Test CD along with the mic & SPL meter function of the DEQ. I'm planning to do some outdoor testing when the weather warms up.

Only indoors when I'm not pushing them too hard, ie, plenty of headroom. Otherwise I'm a little concerned about exceeding xmax if I'm pushing them and asking it to put out 6-12db more than it inherently can down in the 40-60Hz range.

Most of what you need to do is EQ to the room, and most of that should be cutting to account for resonant modes. I wouldn't boost anything by more than 3dB, if that's not enough you've got placement issues that need to be addressed.
