Handy little device for accurate cutting

#1 Post by Harley »

Before I sold my Blind business, one of my Aluminium cut off saws gave up the ghost and I had to replace it with a new one.

It was a "Worx" ( higher quality Chinese brand - if there is such a thing  ) and this thing came with a "Laser guide"

Now previously I have found laser guides to be as useful as tits on a bull because of the countless hours one has to spend getting them lined up and then one drop of the saw - bang - it's out of wack once more.

But this Worx model came with a "Saw blade MOUNTED" laser which means it throws a light directly down the edge of the saw blade.

This is as accurate as you can get with laser guided tools and whilst it's hard to pick up in bright sunlight, for the average work shop it gives a good beam.

Now I see you can buy these as retrofits

I may just get one for my circular saw as well now.

Won't fit my bosch. :(

Check your application, there's about 3 or 4 miter saws it won't fit.
If it's too loud, you're even older than me! Like me.

As far as I'm aware, there are several brands of these out now - I just picked the first one that came up in google.

+1 works well for me

I picked one up last month for my DeWalt 12" saw, fits well enough, and used the stock bolt.

Upon initial install, the saw shook a bit like it was out of balance, turns out the laser washer was not centered. To even it up on the shaft, I turned the laser guide in the direction of tightening the screw while tightening the screw (does that make sense...) which centered the guide nicely on the flats of the saw's shaft. No shakes at all, works great.
Still at the "more questions than sawdust" stage, but learning something every day I visit...

I bought one for my delta saw and it did not line up with the cut. I was very dissapointed and ended up taking it back to lowes. I wish it would have worked.

As you can imagine because it's placed alongside the blade, it can't line up exactly with the cut. The offset of the laser line from the cut line should be fixed, though, so it should be easy to account for.
