My first pair of Tuba 24 Pro Sound Subwoofers! PICS Warning!

#1 Post by Zack Brock »

Hey guys (and gals), so I've built my first pair of Tuba 24 Pro Sound Subwoofers! I built the 24" wide version and each sub has a pair of Eminence Legend BP102s in it.

If this is not the appropriate forum location to showcase my pics, my apologies in advance!

So on with the show...

Thanks for the compliments Tim!

In the unlikely event someone would like to zoom in on the photos, I posted a photo gallery here: http://macpulse.com/pics/tuba24/tuba24.html

Awesome build. I could almost hear the power tools, and smell the sawdust.

Lookin good. 8) Nice photos.

I'm guessing from the amount of Pl before the last panel was attached that you did not have any problems with leaks.

Tis true, it's cheaper than tearing it apart to fix it.
If it's too loud, you're even older than me! Like me.

And the fact that you actually stopped to take pics before slapping that last side on.....a lot of self control there, lol.

Good practice, though, allowing time to set up a bit before adding the second side, so it won't get scraped off in the process.

I use a guide pin (drill bit) in two opposite corners, when attaching the last side. It makes registration accurate every time, no smearing.

As to the PL, you might consider using a thick layer, but spreading uniform with a plastic picnic knife. This insures PL across the full surface of the contact surface. I suppose you have sufficient squish-out, considering the amount applied, but you only get 1 chance to seal inner plates.

Very nice finish work. They look top drawer, for sure.
My biggest worry is that when I'm dead and gone, my wife will sell my toys for what I said I paid for them.

Hey guys, I just dug up this old post of mine (hopefully not breaking any forum rules doing so, otherwise my bad!) so I can ask some related questions.

[Edit: Whoa! I just noticed that this original thread is almost exactly a year old! Go figure.]

I had to sell the woofers out of these cabs to pay some bills a few months ago. Long story short, I'm ready to put woofers back in and get these subs back in business.

1. Will I get better performance out of four BP102s or out of four Deltalite 2510s? I'm looking for what will give me both the 'deepest' bass extension as well as the loudest possible output. The BP102s I used previously weren't a slouch but I'm curious if I can eek out any more performance with an alternate woofer option.

2. What is the best tops to pair these with? I don't want tops that will overpower them so I am considering a pair of Omni 10s as I already have the plans for those. However, I don't mind buying more plans - would a pair of Otop 12s match better? I intend to use these as a multipurpose PA... sometimes used as a DJ setup for low key weddings and such, sometimes used at a church as a general purpose PA with vocals (speech & singing), guitars, keyboard/piano, bass and drums all into the PA. All indoor applications. I would like to replace the Mackie SRM450s that my church is currently using with some nice BFM tops and I appreciate everyone's input here for suggestions in doing so.

Thanks!

O10's were designed to be full range, and the OT12's were optimized for bi-amping. I would use the OT12's for that reason, but the O10's would work fine. Just balance the amp channels if there's a mismatch.
Tomorrow I'm going to stop procrastinating - WB

OT12's.

HL10c's. I know they're discontinued, but it's still the baddest 10" driver around, especially in t24's. I have some, Eminence still has them, they're not going away anytime soon. And they're bullet proof as long as you keep your head. I drove mine far beyond their stated limits, no sweat. I don't advise that now, since replacement may become a problem. But you would have to modify the baffle board, which is pretty hard. Otherwise I'd probably stay with the bp's.
