Photos of BF rigs used for live music
Hi All
i was wondering whether those of you that use BF rigs for live bands could post pics of your rigs set up. i have seen some pics but would be good if there were some others. Dj's i will accept your photos just out of curiosity but i am interested in the BF stuff from a live band aspect.
thanks to those who post pics, it will be much appreciated

I had a friend come down and take several working photos of the rig this weekend. 4DR280's and a pair of centre clustered Titan 48's.
As soon as I get them emailed over I will get them posted.
I had the DR280's supported on the new stands (shot here in the garage):-

I had the pair of titans laid flat centre stage. The stage was 2' high, perfect. I did not use a V plate at this time.
This is the cabs set up in the garage just to test connections etc:-

I was trying out a new set of lightweight digital power amps to replace my very heavy existing amps.....
The same guy who was photographing the rig let me try out one of the Yamaha P7000S amp on the subs, and I was running a Yamaha P5000S (that I have just bought from him) on the 4 DR280's.
It works out like this
Yamaha P5000S puts out 750w per side at 4ohms, so each DR was driven with 375w
The Yamaha P7000S puts out 750w per side at 8ohms into the titans. So perhaps the titans are getting about 650w at the 10ohm rating ?
First thing that struck me was that I was expecting the 4 DR's to outrun the 2 titans by a mile, not so, it was a perfect balance. Perhaps because I run Aux fed subs I am getting more headroom and clarity out of the Titans (thats certainly what is always said about Aux fed subs), but either way the two titans did not even break a sweat, likewise the P7000S power amp was not remotely struggling. I am astounded how well these Yamaha amps worked out.
The biggest difference about this new amp rack was that I could carry the full rack on my own, whereas the old rack (now up for sale) is a three man lift..
As I said, as soon as I get the photos I will get them posted, just didn't want you to think the thread was being ignored !!

Hi
thanks for that, can't wait to see your other photos. just a question how does the titans run at 10ohms. i am thinking about building some titans and would be purchasing a few of the yamaha amps to run it all so am interested in how they sounded.
thanks for the photos so far

Its function of horn loading drivers. The natural impedance of the drivers is increased due to the horn loading.David Luscombe wrote: ... just a question how does the titans run at 10ohms...
Its detailed in the instructions:-
Impedance:
The air mass of the Titan horn raises the effective impedance load of the driver. Shown is an impedance chart for the 3015 driver in a 23.5” panel width cab. The minimum impedance of 8 ohms is usually considered a 10 ohm average load. Two 8 ohm drivers would give a 5 ohm load. A single 4 ohm driver would show a 6 ohm load, while dual 4 ohms drivers would show a 3 ohm load.
....put it this way, I am selling my other stuff and buying them.....they worked very well, sounded fantastic and didn't break into a sweat. Not the very lightest digital amps, but still pretty light at 12kg each. How does the Yamaha amps sound

Awesome rig Dave!
A couple pics when we were setting up the night before the gig.

The titans were later moved facing the wall on the left

Didn't take very many pics that night as I had alot of other things to worry about. Should have snapped some pictures of the crowd there that night.

Hi Dave
Thanks for the photos. what do you think of the O1V. i have one and so far it is great for doing pubs like i used to but would not say it sounded great. oh and as for wedgehorns with a desk like that i think you should scrap wedges and go for in-ears.
so much better for your ears and for you sound and also for getting harmonys right.
cheers david luscombe

I've been experimenting with in-ears, I read about some musicians using cabled earbuds, running a cable along with their instrument cable. Made perfect sense to me, I'm too old to care about running around wireless anyway. Bought some of the cheap Koss "Plug" phones, which has good reviews and DIY mods online. I connected them directly to an aux/Omni out on the 01V, using a mono adapter, and it works great - clean sound with plenty of output. You can also set up a compressor on the aux, use EQ etc. to boost the level if needed. I was very surprised at the quality, I have yet to try it in a live gig situation but I think it will work much better than standard monitors. Everyone in our trio gets their own mix, no extra power amps/monitors to tote, no stage volume & feedback problems.David Luscombe wrote:Hi Dave

I got the 01v about 2 months ago. It replaced an A&H GL2400/24 which I bought from new. I would never go back to the A&H. The 01v sounds great in the live band environment, any worries I had where unfounded. Does it sound as good in the studio as the GL...I dont know or care as live PA is its only use. I would not hesitate to recommend this older 01v to any band as awesome value for money.David Luscombe wrote:Hi Dave

I keep talking to the bands about trying in ears, if it was my band on stage I would probably already have done it, but I provide PA hire for the bands and at the moment they want wedges...and I aint about to fork out for 3 wireless sets of in ears.....
