Here's an unsolicited review from a DJ/producer who played my system this year at Black Rock City. This guy plays some of the larger sound domes that are running big line array rigs....but he is now a BFM fan!

I had several of the "big boy" system operators rave about my system. No one could believe the sound I was getting out of only 6000 watts of generator power. Horn loaded systems are vastly superior in the large open spaces of the playa where system size is governed by how much generator power you can afford. This was the second year I had my BFM system (different set up, though) out there, and people are starting to take notice. Alas, I'm too busy building my own systems to build for anyone else at the moment.
The junk was our art car. Her main system was two Omnitop 12s full size with the 20 tweeter array each. The bottom end was carried by two 28' T30 single 4012 boxes and one 28' T30 double 4012 box - so four drivers in three boxes. This provided monster low end. The deck sound was a full size omni 10 with crossfired array, and the monitor system was 1/2 size omni 10. Everything ran off of two QSC PL 236s processed through a DR260. A fair bit of compression and limiting, but almost no EQ. that is why I love these Omnitop 12s....they need no EQ to sound friggen amazing.
In case anyone is interested, the boat is built on a 73 GMC 1/2 ton custom deluxe. She has full marine controls and a large captains wheel on the deck. Steering linkage was done with motorcycle chain and a series of cogs. The gearing is reduced so you actually can spin the wheel 10 or so times around to get the "boat" to come about. Lots of fun to drive while cranking up the BFM speakers!

I was there but didnt realize there were some bfm speakers there or I would have liked to have checked em out for sure. I was staying at green moon camp, they had a horn loaded turbosound system (foto below), sounded pretty good, the horn loaded subs kicked ass over bigger looking front loaded system down the road.

Some of my fotos of burning man here in case anyone wants a look > http://ayanakai.com/Burning%20Man%20200 ... 20Man.html

hey Alanstar. Yeah I'm there every year. We're part of a big theme camp, of which I provide the sound. I don't take any pictures - don't even own a camera - but I will search some more out from friends and what not.
The BFMs are truly the perfect solution out there. The drivers are completely protected from the alkaline dust, and the superior sensitivity of the horn design offers the most bang for the buck. I know of several large systems that went down this year do to excessive dust. But not mine! Although I did lose a CDJ and a turntable.
Even with the sideways speaker placement, which I'm sure the sound guys all cringe at, the Otop 12s were amazing. Not sure what phase cancelation sounds like, but it musta sounded pretty good to most folks.
good pics by the way. thanks for sharing. The one with the sign that says The Temperature: F*cki*g hot is actually the perimeter of our camp.
