Carpet Tutorial for Back Panel
Does anybody have a carpet tutorial?
I'm looking specifically for the technique used to apply the back panel piece.
I like to wrap the box in a single run, with the seam centered in the bottom panel. I'd like to know the correct way to cleanly lay in the back panel carpet piece.

I found this video that was pretty informative. It is somewhat long with hokey camera work, but you will get the picture.
The installer is right up front about Sloppy Is Ok while installing carpet. He makes a valid point about overlap cutting always produces a flawless seam.

For what cab?bgavin wrote:I'm looking specifically for the technique used to apply the back panel piece.
I found each BFD cab came with its own special challenges to carpet. Even the Omni 10 takes a bit of forethought to get right and is not a walk in the park carpet-wise.

I'm doing a T39 in the next day or so. I have to inventory the carpet stash, and make sure I have enough.
I want to wrap the T39 around the perimeter, and apply the back piece as a separate. I plan on the wrap extending onto the back panel a couple inches all the way around. I will tack the back panel piece in place, and make the overlay cut with a straight edge. This should give me an exact seam on the back panel.
This one was the most challenging carpet job so far. There is a lot of precision cutting to get the carpet into the slot ports.

That sub was for Chelsea Baker (www.aroarah.com). This was the only thing that would fit into their trailer. It's a perfect fit under her Eden D410-XLT, and most of the time is just a glorified cab stand, to get the Eden up to ear level. She is DI from her basses to FOH, almost never miced. It does help for the few gigs they play without PA support.

Are you extending the front for a full height grille? If so that would make the carpeting a piece of cake.bgavin wrote:I'm doing a T39 in the next day or so.
I have two bare T39's I need to carpet and have not grilled them - big mistake! It's a bitch getting the carpet into that slope and also the supports plus there's a lot of wastage. Better just to extend the front, spray paint the front inside black and then apply a grille. Use the 1" extension return piece of carpet to prevent the grill from rattling.
When I carpeted my T39, I wrapped the carpet around the sides using a milk crate to hold the cab off the ground. Start at a rear corner, wrap all the way around leaving some to wrap over the top and bottom. I painted the mouth, folded the carpet in about 3" after cutting the center of the mouth out. Used a piece of that to cover the driver port cover. My grill is screwed right to the edges of the mouth and just above the joint where the top of the mouth angles in. Pic is on my frappr.

I just finished up putting duratex on a DR250 with a small roller, a large roller and an array of sponges. The outside was a piece of cake... The inside involved a great deal of swearing, and getting duratex all over my sleaves. Then I read this discussion and thought about using carpet instead. Now I realize I how happy I was putting duratex on the inside of the horn
Nice job DJP!

Sprayed a DR250 with DuraTex last week, start to finish in less than half an hour, and the innards of the horn were a breeze.fender3x wrote:I just finished up putting duratex on a DR250 with a small roller, a large roller and an array of sponges. I extend the front on all my cabs. I like a full grille, even on Titans. Spray paint the insides black, and call it good.Harley wrote:Better just to extend the front, spray paint the front inside black and then apply a grille.

The Italian Poplar I use is very light, but it also dings so easy. Paint finish would not be feasible.
We can't get Baltic Birch here so the closest in density to that is Australian Hoop Pine. It's damned expensive ( 2.5 x the price of IP ) and weighs a ton.
The IP has a thinner veneer on the outer too which is not the best compared to AHP which has even thickness.
AHP is more bullet proof really.
