Retrofitting Piezos

#1 Post by Mark Coward »

Thought I'd post about a weekend project. I replaced the CD horn in a friend's monitor cab with a row of piezos. I cut a plywood plate the size of the horn mouth, and mounted 4 of the 1005 tweeters. I could have cut & glued and fitted more, or used 1016's but this was a quickie project with what I had on hand. I wired them two parallel sets, connected in series and it sounds really good. This monitor had the horn in vertical orientation so the piezo array works really well, much less harsh than the CD and less prone to feedback.

One more tip, I found that the inside of a roll of Duct tape is the exact size hole needed for the 1005.

Sweetness. I have a pair of craptacular Optimus PA speakers and I'd been trying to work out how to replace the one crummy piezo tweeter with a multi-driver setup as the highs go to crap when you push anything through them. I hadn't considered the 1005's, but that may be a great option.
