Check those piezos

#1 Post by kjacobs »

I figured after the shorting problems I had with the piezos on my DR280's, I should include here what was found.

It is a good idea when building the piezo arrays to check and make sure all the piezo elements are seated well inside the housing. One of the problem piezos pulled from my array had one inside lead longer than the other and the element was twisted, so it caused an intermitent short that nocked out half my piezo array and would come and go while tapping on the piezo housing. Save yourself some time and headaches....check those elements. You should cut the piezo horns with the backs off anyway......

Also, as learned from experience.....use 18 guage or smaller wire on the array. Too much heat can kill those dinky piezos
