Cabinet Paint for UK builders (Any colour you want )

#1 Post by e1wer »

Found this U.K. supplier of Cabinet coating, they have a variety of standard colours and will mix to your own requirement. Not tried them yet but probably will do shortly.

Someone has mentioned this brand before, but I don't know if anyone already used it. Here's one that is intended for speaker coating:

David Perry has used it. It looked so good in the pix that I inquired with them if they sell in the USA...not yet. Too bad, because it not only looks pretty much exactly like duratex, it is considerably cheaper.

Aldcrofts is very close to my home town...in fact it used to be my home town..

It doeas look fantastic, dries quickly and you can re-coat within an hour.

They dont manufacture that stuff, only supply a third party product.

When I called in to pick up my last lot of Paint (which they do manufacture) I had a chat with them about the adhesive they supply..it sounded like it has all the required properties.

If anybody is thinking of buying a large quantity, I can call in and get a tube to try it out before you commit ?? (I work within 10min of them)

Please do!
I'm thinking of ordering paint and adhesive from them within the upcoming week.
PL-adhesive here at my supplier is 33$ for one half litre. :?

Let me know which one you are after:-
http://www.aldcroftadhesives.com/produc ... tegoryID=0

Tube price is pretty high in my opinion (£5.45 for 310ml)....

This is the stuff I used for my last pair of DR's:-
http://www.tool-net.co.uk/p-324986/ever ... 310ml.html
£3.35 for 310ml.....

Thats a significant saving and I can confirm it works very well as I have built my last pair of DR280 using this stuff.

The adhesive that you linked is very, very cheap though!
I will look into which one that will turn out cheapest, don't wanna pay for 2 shippings..

Do they sell that paint in NZ or have a manf rep here?

I will now only ever use the Adhesive in tubes...it makes application very simple using the gun. If you have not tried it, go for it, I promise you will not look back......(I will also not even bother using PVA again on any project I carry out)

As such I would say the lumberjack PL tubes is the better option (that I can find in the UK)

I'd personally be wary of a 5 minute adhesive. The PL Premium I use full cures in about 4 hours, but that's seldom a problem. What I like about it is you have plenty of time to get all the parts aligned before it sets up. There are times when I can see a 5 minute adhesive being useful, but I think it would make things difficult with DR backs and sheaths, for instance.

You might shoot them an email to find out.

sales@aldcroftadhesives.com

I got a response from Julie Aldcroft, no less. Although they do not (yet) sell in the USA, I learned about their plans to do so in the near future by writing to them. Maybe they are already in NZ.

1+

Slow is good. Lot's of times I can't get all my clamps set in 5 minutes. And that does not even count the times that I put things together backwards or upside down. I usually figure this out before the 4 hours is up (although not always), but I OFTEN don't figure it out in 5 minutes. So, 5 min adhesive is definitely out for the ham-handed dyslexic builder like me ;-)
