What delay to aim for with THTLP

#1 Post by JakeTheSnake »

Hi,
Getting close to finishing my build. Just wanted to know what people ended up with regarding delay on the main speakers. Should I start out with the length of the horn and trim from there?

In my case, I have two THTLPs located in diagonal corners of my listening room. The two subs are managed by a MiniDSP Flex Eight active crossover/DSP.

I used REW (Room EQ Wizard) and MSO (multi Sub Optimizer) and let the measurements guide me.

Thanks! Dont think the MSO works for me since im using the two subs in stereo mode, not mono. However, I found a couple of threads on the net stating something like this: add delay to the main speakers corresponding to the length of the horn. Then flip polarity on the mains and look for a deep null in the crossover region adjusting the delay to get it as deep as possible. Then flip back polarity on the mains. Now mains and subs should be in phase at the crossover frequency.
A few days away from trying the horns for the first time. Cant wait!!!

There's no such thing as stereo subs. Bass content is always summed to mono. If your receiver says its an x.2 that means there are dual sub outs, but they carry the same information.

Good to know. ill be using the horns as the low end in my active 4 way speakers in a 2 channel setup so no receiver sub outs for me.
