Is it a dumb idea?

I drive a '17 Tundra double cab and discovered, much to my chagrin, that neither an AT nor TrT will fit in the back. A tall AT at 14" width may just fit behind the passenger seat with the rear seat flipped up, but that leaves zero room for any front seat adjustment. The T18 at 14" width would fit more comfortably in the same spot though. I'd just keep the passenger rear single seat flipped up all the time as I rarely carry passengers in the back seat, and I'd still have the center and driver's side so I still could if needed. I'd also add handles and a speakon connector for easy removal if needed.

I'll add pitchers of what I'm working with in a bit.

Here's what I'm working with:

Here's a couple mockups of the TAT vs T18. You can see the TAT barely fits and leaves no room to adjust the seat. The T18 leaves a bit of space. Still wouldn't be able to lean the seat all the way back, but could get it back far enough to possibly sleep on a road trip or something.

I'm just not sure of in-cabin response and all that for the T18. Like, what will cabin gain do to it's response? Will it go as low as a TAT? Probably not as loud but I'm not looking to win any SPL comps anyway.

You could strap it to the flipped up seat

If i were you, I'd build some supports the same height as those seat mounts on the floor and use a truck tuba. Or notch out panel 9 and trim back the sides at the mouth to just squeeze it in there between the mounts.

Yeah, the issue is that there's no behind the seats. The rear seat backs are right up against the back of the cab.

I just mocked that up with cardboard and the biggest downside to doing this would be the blocking of the view out of the rear passenger window. Would make the already large blind spot worse.

hmm...not a bad idea. However, if I'm going to sacrifice a seat for this, I'd rather it be the single on the passenger side.

This definitely sounded compelling! So I cut out a mockup of the footprint of the TrT and tried fitting it. There would be too much to notch. So much so that almost the entire cab would have to be shortened from 36" to around 32". Ugh. I could rotate the TrT so that it sticks out from under the rear seat, and it would fit, but there goes any leg room anyone sitting back there might have. Drat!

I think what I'll do is just go with the 13.5" wide TAT. The person who sits in the passenger seat the most is my wife and she doesn't like leaning the seat back anyway so maybe it'll be fine. The TAT comes to just below the window so it won't block any visibility out of that window. And with handles and a speakon jack, I can always remove it easily and store it in the bed if I need to.

Kind of late to the party here, but years ago I squeezed a T18 in the trunk of my Subaru Legacy (sedan) for the fun of it. It DEFINITELY needed EQ to sound good and I vaguely recall it being very boomy in the upper bass frequencies (60-100hz). It could probably be good with tuning, but it was similar to the budget sealed 12" I normally have in there.
