Hello from southern Maine

#1 Post by KentWhitten »

Hi everyone, I'm Kent, 57, and I'm excited to join the community as one of the new BF builders. I'm located in southern Maine, near Kennebunk, and I believe I'm close to Bill, who has generously offered me the local sales area.

My background is in cabinetmaking, a trade I've been passionate about for many years. However, recent health challenges forced me to temporarily close my business. While I'm still working as a cabinetmaker—it's how I make a living—I've always had a strong interest in hi-fi and pro audio, ever since I first received a Crutchfield catalog.

With things a bit slower work-wise at the moment, I've been spending more time in my shop. I honestly can't recall exactly how I stumbled upon this community, but I found myself drawn into the Burning Man thread and was particularly impressed by Bill's dedication to the designs. That's what prompted me to sign up!

I've already started my first build: a Titan 39, which I'm pairing with a 12" subwoofer I had on hand. I'm looking forward to sharing my progress and learning from all of you.

Since you are a pro in cabinets, it will be easy to just do what you know. But, be sure and read and follow the plans when it comes to the type of materials to use. Don't be tempted to use cabinet grade birch with a thin veneer - the pressures inside the cab can pull the veneer off. Also, these cabs have to be airtight, so PL Premium is a must - yellow glue won't do it.

Good luck and you should be able to turn out some great cabs.
