F151M vs ASD1001

#1 Post by Abushalom »

Pardon me if this question has already been asked before and dealt with. I attempted a search on it in the forum and couldn't find anything related, which is why I ask.

Why is the F151M better suited for the 1.2khz crossover when its resonance is at 1.03khz which is higher than the ASD1001's 0.59khz and why do Eminence recommend the F151M to be crossed over at 1.8khz and then recommend the ASD1001 which has the lower resonance of 0.59khz to be used at the higher 2.5khz frequency and with a steep 3rd order high pass?

Might be a novice question, so please pardon me, I am a novice. I'm really interested in finding out from the grand master of speaker designing and the rest of the highly knowledgeable people here what parameters in compression drivers make them suited for use at what frequencies and SPL situations. Thank you all for taking the time to read and respond. Gracias.

The ASD Fs is 1.23 kHz, not 590 Hz. I notice that Eminence says 590 Hz on the latest spec sheet, but it's wrong. There is a small impedance peak at 590 Hz, but the primary peak is at 1.23 kHz.

Thank you so much for the clarification. Does this then mean the strongest of the impedance peaks in an impedance graph is the resonance? Might be a question with obvious an answer, so thanks for accommodating. If this is the case, then a number of spec sheets I have read on some company websites might be quoting the secondary/weaker impedances as the resonance.

That's correct. My data sheet from 2006 has it right.

I just looked again at the Eminence site. You have this, which says Fs is 590 Hz, https://eminence.com/products/asd_1001#specifications and you have this, which has Fs at 1.2 kHz: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0270/ ... D1001S.pdf

The charts are the same.
