T48 Club Installation

Welp, cats out of the bag now so I can actually talk about it, but I have been hired to design the sound system for a brand new mainstream club opening here in Seattle this summer. After some demos the club decided they really like our T48s and wanted some of their own. After some space consideration, and nearly destroying the business upstairs' bar with boundary loading against a shared brick wall, we settled on building them 4 15sw2000 loaded 20" t48s (not wall loaded ).

A Fulcrum Acoustic sound system that was installed in a bar in Boston, somehow found it's way into our hands and the 12 GX1226 coaxial speakers from that kit fit the venue very nicely. So I've opted to use 11 of those in a distributed 5 zone time aligned configuration around the room. I actually think these tops sound phenomenal. Some of the best I've ever heard. I'm new to the whole linear phase craze and I have to say, I'm sold. Those things sound absolutely surgical.

The combination of the T48 and GX12 has to be my absolute favorite. They just align so well, it's an absolute PLEASURE to listen to. It's punchy, accurate, impactful and deep. It's the sort of sound system that almost shouldn't be that loud AND that good. Anything and everything from bass music, to disco, stomp clap indie rock it all sounds amazing top to bottom, it nearly brought a tear to my eye. The venue is called VICE Seattle. Wyland! That's awesome brother! Gongrats on the job. It's great to hear all of your attention to detail and well applied principals you've practiced over the years are paying off beyond the Mobile DJ gigs! I always enjoy your gig reports. Please, keep us posted as this comes together.

Looking forward to the conclusion. Do you have a target completion date?

I reached out to Bill in private a while back about the correct procedure. We purchased a second set of plans a few weeks back for it. We actually bought the whole book of plans lol I'm happy to see all the updated drivers in there! Lots of prv Dayton and lavoce The Fulcrum system had a whole rack of crown so we are repurposing the 4 xti4002s and 1 xti2002 for the mains and monitors, and a pair of macro tech ma5000i driving the 4 subs. Linear phase presets are being injected into the system using a Fulcrum Acoustic TQP-48 and routed to zones and aligned using an Allen and Heath AHM32.

I figured I'd drop some updates here on our progress. Our shop serves a dual purpose so we opted to hack away at a pair of boxes at a time in interest of saving space.

This new double bevel mitre saw was perfect for cutting the corners off of the baffle spacers. Now we just need to buy a circle jig for the hand router to get those driver cutouts looking even better on the next build.

But, you can also build one from a piece of paneling or 1/4 ply. I used one of those for the first few speakers......but, it's worth having a good one.

It's a 1x6 hardwood board a few inches longer than the largest hole you'll cut. The router screws to it using the tapped holes in the base normally used for mounting it to a table. Holes are drilled in it at various distances from where the bit passes through. Those holes are used to drive a screw through the board to the center point of the holed being cut.

I think 50$ is worth it for something like that. The router feels like a more appropriate tool than a jigsaw for this I was debating on using funds from this project to buy a CNC because I know we would use it all the time, especially after this new club opens, but the saws and routers we currently have do the trick. Plus I'm not sure where we would put a CNC table this shop is absolutely full of titans LOL. And now a random danley th812 that somehow made our shop it's permanent home

Vice had our grand opening this weekend and I gotta say, I surprised myself a little bit. This is the best sound system I have ever installed of any scale for any period of time. The nearly 6 months design cycle really paid off. The zone based linear phase coaxial full range speakers are absolutely phenomenal. I have never heard a Shure sm58 sound that good holy smokes. We just ran the mic with no EQ and I think that's the clearest I've ever heard a dj shout on a mic it was within 6 decibels everywhere but the bar, which was positioned perfectly off axis for roughly -10db in the highs. Someone actually commented on my little bar coverage trick and I nearly cried. They said "idk if you did this on purpose but I love it" lol I totally did that on purpose nowhere was too loud or too quiet everyone got a slice of the pie and I couldn't be more proud.

That's before we even get to the SUBS! Those 20" prv titans are monsters! And they're comically small. They are much louder than 4 24 inch 3015lf titans and practically blend in with the stage. That was as much sound as this 450 cap venue could handle and we didn't even boundary load this time. We walked outside and the security said "damn you are fucking this block UP right now" the grilles from reliable hardware turned out SO nice too! We sandwiched them between truss head screws with rubber gromits and gasket tape, reinforcing the mouth so as to support the grille. These boxes turned out crazy good, no rattling from the grilles, they look phenomenal and sound even better. People were shining flashlights in them and admiring build quality pretty much right away.

Honestly I don't recall ever having such a high fidelity experience at any venue ever. That was practically a religious experience for me it's hard not to absolutely lose your mind in foh after spending all this time on something that turned out THIS good. The manager of the venue was speaking in metaphors by the end of the second night he loved it too we even made the news.

Very nice work. Love that grill & support design. I may "borrow" it for my 4x T48 build I'm getting started on. I'm going 24" wide. Would you think the single vertical brace still be enough at 12" between or go two for 8" between? To avoid any rattle.

You need two braces at 24' wide.

I think he means braces for the grilles. If so one would do. Sonically they probably don't need any, but they'd help reduce denting from the occasional drunk falling into them.
