T48 lookalikes?

I found a listing on ebay for a set of horns that look almost identical to the t48 but the bracing and size are slightly off. Not finding a whole lot of other cabinets it could be. If they're t48s I might just swoop them up. Can anyone verify before I go trying to contact the seller? Dimensions are slightly off 25 inch deep, 23.5 inch wide 50 inch tall.

I'd just ask the seller.

As far as the dimensions, it's 2 inches taller. I don't think the castors would add that much, the width is plausible, and the depth is one inch over... but they appear to have an inch lip around the perimeter of the front of the cabinet, presumably to add a grill... maybe.

Do they say what drivers they're loaded with?

Nope just an incredibly vague description. Although it mentions a 15 inch driver. It would make sense if maybe they were modified to fit a grille. Those have been up for sale for months for a stupid good deal.

Well... we could speculate until the cows come home... or you could just send the seller a message and ask them about the details. Would make for quicker, more accurate answers for sure.

I just bought 8 t48s 6 months ago, and I absolutely love them. Kinda went out on a limb and I have no regrets. If these are what I think they are I might consider shipping them out and doubling up on my t48 count. I think a heard of 16 would do me alright 😂 I messaged the seller I'll get back to the forum if it's anything of interest.

Anyone farmiliar with a fabricator called vectorsonics? I'm not sure if these are proprietary drivers or if they just have the fabricators branding on them. But all I can find on vectorsonics is their location in Maine. Thicker paneling was used on these which i believe would explain the dimension differences and the change to the bracing. The seller didnt really have to much information about them to share other than that they could fill a stadium and that they had bought them already fabricated.

Those are not proper hold-downs for a sub speaker. Air leakage around those bolts on the clamps. Pass on these. They are not built properly.

Out of curiosity, if these are also mounted using the predrilled holes, but supplemented by these braces would they be viable options? Or are the braces just a recipe for leakage? I have contacted vectorsonics and he told me they are custom drivers ordered from eminence.

Is this something that can be remedied? The seller is asking 4k for 8 bass bins, 4 3 way tops, and 2 full amp racks with dsps. It's a crazy good deal. If it's something that can be remedied I would do it, if not I will focus my search elsewhere.

There are too many unanswered questions to take a chance on them. Since Vectorsonics does not have a website you can't ask them about them either.

Personally, if you can't verify the origin of the design, get a reasonably reliable response/sensitivity chart, verify construction technique and materials, and get the T/S parameters for the drivers... it occurs to me as a bit of a gamble. I suppose how much of a gamble depends on what $4k means to you. Chump change to some, a fortune to others.

Well I talked to the company on the phone and they verified that they did indeed make them. I'm not gonna lie the seller doesnt sound like he knows a damn thing about them and I dont trust him to run tests on them. Vectoronics closed their fabrication warehouse a while ago after he had a couple heart attacks. He basically just said he would get the plans from someone and executes it exactly as they specified whether it's a shit design or not. Which is completely fair. Business is business
But I think I will go a different route though. Found a listing for 6 t45s and 6 dr200s from somebody farmiliar with the plans that I might go for instead.

It's a bit of a shame... CV used to be all about high sensitivity loudspeakers. Although, presumably, they've been forced to follow the money and start producing higher power handling (yet less efficient) speakers to satisfy the markets need for "watts". And it's unfortunate that their "horn" subs aren't all that they could be. Fortunately, Bill has filled the void in the market for high efficiency designs that also produce results beyond what the CV line (and many others) have missed.
