Hi, been awhile since my last post but thought I'd report on my experiences trying to go ultra cheapo with the T39's. I gave them thier first real test this weekend as I just finished building an amp to power them. The amp is 2 bridged LM4870 national semi chip amps, each putting out around 100 watts RMS at 33 volt rails.(Not exact, but close). Again, cheap being the keyword, the amp cost around $50 to build because I already had the chasis and transformers from an old Kenwood amp. Anyway, I hooked them up,cross em at 90hz-100hz and played some Clutch, Blast Tyrant through them at deafening levels. I cant say enough about the T39, it exceeded all my expectations. The kick was soooo good and bass guitar notes were so solid and clear that if I had room in my house for these boxes I think I might use them as home Hi-Fi speakers. The reproduction is just stunning for the amount of money I have put in these. Again, for 2 MCM drivers that cost $25 each, some plywood, elbow grease and a measly 100W/channel amp your band can have subs that will put to shame most bands sound system's that they paid dearly for! DIY DIY and spend your hard earned cash on new drumheads and axes, not overpriced, overhyped and overweight PA gear. The only downside is that my unconventional looking PA(Subs pointed toward the wall,"dude how come you got the speakers pointed at the wall",and my 16 - 4" drivers, eight foot tall mains) get smirked at when first viewed. Then they hear it, and converts are made. Horns rule!! Thank you Bill!!!!
Now for some wedges..............it never ends.
