Frazier X-15 Info

I'm acquiring some empty Frazier X-15 boxes. I liked the look of them and the price wasn't bad so I went for it. I'm in the beginning stages of gathering info on them. Does anyone know anything about these speakers? I'm hearing that original components are impossible to find so I will need to put updated stuff in there. Any help is appreciated. I hear that they can sound pretty amazing when redone correctly.

I remember using some Fraziers in a club in Milwaukee around 1974, they resembled EV Sentry IVs. They were rare then, and I doubt you'll find much information about them now. The X15 resembles the JBL 4560, but wouldn't work as well, the throat is too large to effectively load the driver, and being pre-T/S era the reflex tuning was probably a seat of the pants affair. It would take some good engineering chops to reverse-engineer them to find appropriate driver specs for them.

I spoke with a guy in Vancouver, WA that has a pair with speakers in them that are all upgraded/aftermarket parts. He's going to get me a list of the components that his are using. So, I have one good lead. While they do resemble the JBL 4560's, I am curious about the "vents" along the sides. I'm wondering if those were functional or just for looks. I guess I'll find out this afternoon. They're being delivered later today.

I agree. I've come across a lot of cool looking vintage speakers that upon reading reviews, were trash. Things that peaked my interest on these is the guy in Vancouver also owns Khorns. When he says they sound good, I know he isn't comparing them to some Bose cubes. Also, rumor has it that Jack Frazier and Paul Klipsch were friends. Pairs of Fraziers were seen at the Klipsch factory at times. Of course this is all info I've come across on the web, so I may have just bought some firewood but for the price, it was worth the chance.

If these are what I'm remembering the only place I have ever seen them used is in movie theaters. OLD movie theaters.
Anyway, google a guy named Todd Crane from SC. He visits a lot of forums and used to work for Frazier years back. There is also a facebook page dedicated to these speakers.

I've got a pair of Fraziers sitting in my basement. Not X-15s, they are old column speakers with 2 horns. My son dragged them home from a theater that was being renovated. Original drivers don't sound bad considering how old they are. Make a funny smell when you run them. They weigh a ton and have been sitting in the same spot for over a year. I kind of wish they were gone

I got them! Looks like the woofer and horn were removed but the crossover components were left inside the boxes. Does that aid in figuring out what woofer/horn would work or not? Also, the "vents" along the sides do connect to the chamber behind the woofer. They weigh a ton!

Those may be X-15W's. The no-tweeter model. Might be a good candidate for the buyout Lab 15-4.....

I see them with the horn mounted in the flat panel above the woofer and with a horn mounted on top of the box. There are 4 screw holes in the top of the box so something was mounted there at one time.

I'm curious how much work it would be to put a horn in that blank panel. I like that look better than mounting one on top. So far finding info on these has been difficult, fun but difficult.
