Cajon Tuning

#1 Post by jbass »

A while back I built a prototype cajon drum just for fun and it turned out pretty well apart from being ugly (I used cheap plywood). Now I want to do things right. It occurs to me that cajons and speaker cabinets have a few things in common and that it might be possible to accentuate the low frequency thump by playing around with the port size. Has anyone tried this? I've got an adjustable port tube with an ID of about 4.5" which would allow for some experimentation.

Thanks for any ideas.

If it has a port and a duct then it would be tuned just like a speaker. The longer the duct the lower the tuning.
