Putting tweeter array in peavey sp2

#1 Post by DJ Higgumz »

Would there be any problem with fitting like a 4 peice crossfiring tweeter array in a single 15 cab? What would be the lowest acceptable xover point be on the array?
Before Fitzmaurice, big bass could only be had with just a hook and a nightcrawler.

I guess the crossover point used in Bills plans will be about the very lowest you can cross them, as the fs of those tweeters is 3.5khz and the crossover freq is already well below that.

Is that 15 capable of going any higher than 1.5khz?

Edit: Crossover point woofer to CD is 1.8khz. Found the specsheet http://www.peavey.com/products/index.cf ... 26nbsp%3B2 Why would you want to replace the CD with piezo's? I could seeing how someone would want to remove the horrible piezo tweeter in their older cabs though.

Doesnt the array have a wide dispersion? That is more important than sq, sad to say BC I need them for a large outdoor event

Four piezos will work with a W6. They won't work in an OTop 15, and for the same reason they won't work in an SP2.

If you are doing a large outdoor event i would guess people won't be standing within close proximity of the cabs. I would guess the CD horn will have more throw at the cost of horizontal dispersion making it a better tool for the job.
Can't you get a few more tops tocover a wider area?

Nice. I'm playing a Relay for Life event in Houston on Friday. It's always a good time.

I'll be running sound for two bands next month at Relay for Life here in my little town. The survivor walk is a really moving event.

It's a great cause for sure, having been part of entertainment at our local one a few times.

How many cabs do you have? Can you do spiral stacks with the CD's nearer each other, eg first cab right way up, next cab on top upside down, with the spiraling giving you wider dispersion?

DR 250: x 2 melded array, 2x CD horn, March 2012 plans.

WH8: x 6 with melded array wired series/parallel.

So, what was your plan to set up then?

I was thinking of running them as wide as I can, angling them in from the corners of the track. then I would have my little tops I have now as center fills/ backfills to aim behind me at the bleachers. I haven't looked at the track yet, this is just from what I can predict will happen. I of course would make it so I can put the original horn back in as i want to resell them after I build my DR200s

What you are considering just isn't worth it. Use what you have - they will be far enough back from the crowd that the dispersion won't be that critical.

Hmmm, how long do you have?

Since it's already been suggested that 4 piezo's wouldn't work, what I was thinking was to was to build your melded arrays for your DR's early, put them in a temporary box, disconnect thre CD's, and bi amp...
