Jack112 x 8 3012HO and ASDs

#1 Post by la malta »

Review will come eventually. Had a late show last night and have another busy week ahead, but thought I would at least post a picture. These were before I loaded the woofers obviously.

I loaded 4 up literally an hour before set up time. Didn't even have time to test. So I did 2 per side for a smallish room, all electronic music DJs. This upcoming Friday I'm doing a bigger room and intend to run 3 per side, and using the other 2 possibly as side fills.

My initial thoughts are that they appear to be more effecient than the 15"/1" cabs I used to use. I ran them crossed over to my subs at 80hz and didn't experience any excursion problems like the dust cap hitting the phase plug like I was afraid. I'm sure I will get some criticism for choosing to build these and not Otops given they will be used with subs most of the time, but I'll explain my reasons for that. After this upcoming weekend I'll post more pictures and offer an honest but constructive review of my entire BFM building experience over the last couple years. In all, I'm impressed and happy with the Jacks.

My only question is why didn't you build 1 pair with the wider dispersion of the melded array?

I wanted them to be same. I don't think I'm going to miss the extra 30 degrees that much. My reasons for building jacks and not Otops anyway was that I wanted something I could use for anything in the future, be it mains, monitors, bass guitar cab, something in my gig room... whatever. Not practical for me to make a pair different than the others, but if I ever feel the need I made the tweeter horns removable.

Very very good looking stack... Now you have to stack em all on top of each other and take a picture! :D

Will you be adding any grills to avoid them being used as beer can holders or to keep the punters fingers away from the drivers?

Yes, grills been cut and black oxided for close to 2 years by now. That's also about as long as I had the flats cut for this project also. I've been busy with the birth of a daughter that I've only been able to work on these a little at a time. I am probably going to gaffer tape the grills on temporarly for any upcoming gigs until I have time to stain a wood frame for them, which is sort of a trademark for my speakers and sound system. I don't do corporate type events, so I'm at liberty to add a touch of style to my builds. An example of what I intend to do to frame the grills can be seen in the wood trim I did on my subs which I have in pictures below.

Stacking 2 a side on my lowes mini scaffold was a chore by myself. I'm gonna need a ladder or helper to stack 3 like I want to. Stacking 4 a side I suspect is much too top heavy for me to have confidence in its safety. I think I would need some REAL scaffold for that, but is something I'd like to try one day. The extra 2 I built will be used as DJ monitors or side/front fills.

Very cool! I hope you understand the importance of stacking all of them and taking a picture. I think it'll be a record, and the world will surely be a better place for it.

Sorry fellas. I worked way too hard on these to risk a game of Jenga. I'd love to see a pic of the tallest stack of tops in BFM land though.

Only put a tweeter in the top cab too! It's not easy adjusting the volume.

I was going to attempt a seven high stack. Might as well not bother anymore :(
