Bingo! Jack 112

#1 Post by Fenderfan »

......And yes I have finally found what I've been looking for. Harley introduced me to the world of BFM and the Jacks in particular, and after I played them, the benchmark was set.
Now I've finally completed my own build of two Jack 112's, I'm happy. :hyper:
I had one with woofer only, and the other with a melded array switchable on/half/off. Tonight I took the cab with array to band practice(only one speakon cable for now). It was awesome. While I was dialling in different sounds and settings with the eq, I was surprised just how responsive it was. 8) must be a very efficient design, as my volume setting was half of what I had it on for my previous generic cab. Looking forward to getting another cable this weekend, and taking both to practice next week. Will update again after then, but so far, one happy camper.
Hats off to Bill for some awesome designs!

Great news. They are nice cabs for bass.

You should post this over on BPNZ as well.

Chris, sorry I must've forgotten to mention in my post - I used the Eminence 2512's.

Finally tonight for practice I had two cabs after buying an extra lead last weekend. My drummer was grinning just as much as me, and even got positive comments from the guitarist. The rest of the band are just surprised how clear the jacks are, and a full range covered too. Adding the extra cab gives that bit more in the low end, and damn, these cabs are definitely gonna make an honest player out of me! Btw, with my previous cab, a single 15, my amp was set at about 5.5 out of 10 volume wise, tonight, just sat at about 2.5. Efficiency anyone?

Bravo! What amp & bass are you using? Active or passive? Please share all the details you can, and, of course, pictures and video are greatly appreciated.

Was with my Fender P, and going through a Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0.
I'm pretty sure I've found 'my setting', nice and punchy, with good lows, decent chunk of kids and a bit of high to round it off. Probably suits majority of songs we play with tweeter bank switched to half, but good to have the extra if needed. Headroom for Africa!

Be sure to take note of where all the knobs and sliders are set on your amp. Every once and a while someone will comment on the sound of my Jack rig, and I'll do a "hey yall, watch this" and crank up the bass knob and eq and really blow them away. Trouble is that I can't ever quite get things back the way they used to be. Sort of like adjusting the tilt of the steering wheel on a car.

Haha, yeah I think I'm guilty of doing that too in the past! But yes, I have noted down my settings, minus gain control, which I tend to adjust to suit songs.

I'm in that position ever since upgrading my bass with a new and rather powerful preamp. So much tonal variety that I get lost at times and never seem to get back exactly what I had before. Great fun though, and sooner or later I will get to grips with it 8)
