Sonic Visualizer - Music analysis made easy

This is a great, and FREE, program that provides spectrum data on a song. It is compatible with the VAMP plugin architecture. There are a lot of free plugins that provide more analysis capability than I know what to do with.

almost posted this as we are using it in an online course I'm in right now. google Coursera.com. the course introduction to sound design which started jan 28th has a whole tone of tut vids for this program.
