So the only thing that I have really used a router for is to round over the corners of my speaker cab builds.
First off this is what I have to work with, Craftsman 1 1/2 HP 1/4" collet router (inherited from father so it is pretty old, but seems to work fine)
I want to start trying a couple of techniques: recessing, and template making.
My first project it to build a basic box for my new Bash 300 amp. I want the aluminum faceplate to sit flush with the box.
What is the recommended bit to use?
Would a plunge router be a better choice?

Re: Total Router Noob
A rabbit bit works best.
The router that you have will work, no problem.
Check out YouTube, and of course, surf. Sites with"wood" in them likely will help, although some may want to charge (don't).

Re: Total Router Noob
please post pictures of your project as you progress! just got a bash 300, and I'm currently debating on affixing it to my THT or building a seperate box for it.
on the router topic, I went to work with a t48 almost done, and in my rush told my girlfriend she could round over the edges. as I rode my bike to work I realized she'd never used a router of any kind. when I was telling her what tool to use she remarked, "oh yeah, the scary one". I promptly called her and told her not to do it

Re: Total Router Noob
The router will be fine.
A template and a "template bit" for your router is another way of making a snug flush fit.

Re: Total Router Noob
I have been looking through the router bits that my pop left me and I have a rabbit bit. Couple of different sizes actually.
So am going to do some experimenting with some scrap wood.

The plate is pretty thin. Seems like a lot of work for minimal payoff.rec wrote:I have been looking through the router bits that my pop left me and I have a rabbit bit. Couple of different sizes actually.

Do you mean to recess the amp?
Re: Total Router Noob
