Christmas Concert

#1 Post by J_Dunavin »

Our Church just had it's annual Nativity displays and Christmas Concert that we did the sound for. We have been borrowing someones Soundcraft Spirit Folio SX and has always worked well....until this year. The mains out decided to cut in and out, so we had to use all three of the aux sends. Which was fine since we did mono mix everywhere. Mono to the house, monitors, and my two DR200's. Sounded great and we all had a good time.
After the show we did test the mains out and now they seem to work, guess leaving a board in the basement all year and then expecting it to work isn't the best idea. I think I'll run it through my home theater setup and let it run, hopefully it will work itself out.
PS I finally did get myself an audio snake. It needs a good makeover, but It's 50 ft. long with 20 channels,
for $37 !! :hyper: :hyper:

If your folio has main inserts, check that these switching jacks aren't intermittent. They could be the cause of the problem you describe.

It's handy to keep a TRS 1/4 inch plug handy with the tip and ring connected together for troubleshooting problems like this. If you suspect an insert jack isn't passing signal, simply insert this plug into the suspect insert jack.

Edit: I just had a look at the manual mfor this mixer, and they even show you how to make a dummy insert plug like I described. This makes me think that it could be a common problem on this mixer, for them to include it in the manual.

Another potential cause could be the 2 TRK button could be on; this will also disable any master output buss.

Thanks for the thoughts on the main inserts...
I can't wait to overhaul the snake...I'll post some before and after shots.
