Hello from dreary Lancashire UK!!!
Hi folks!
I'm new to the forum, but have been reading with interest and enthusiasm about the DR200's and the Jack 10's, so I've decided to have a bash at making a pair of each...not going to start until the new year, but looking forward to rolling my sleeves up and getting stuck in!!!
Any advice from UK based builders would be appreciated, particularly regarding materials (Loctite PL doesn't seem to be available...alternatives please!!!) for example...!!
Best wishes to everyone on here, your builds have inspired me to do my own, so many thanks...
Regards
Mark

Hello Mark.
Welcome to the forum, from Ramsbottom! (....that'll have them all falling about laughing.). I'm building some Jack 12 lites. Bought speakers from lean business and tweeters and basically jack kit from leland at speaker hardware. Import the whole lot.

Welcome aboard. Some components are easy to come by in Europe and some are not. I have several sources, but for ease I often use Leland from speakerhardware.com and use a reshipper like shopusa.com or shipito.com.. You can get everything you want for a BFM build there and Leland is a stand up guy with huge experience in building BFM cabs and a very active person on these forums..Foxless wrote:Hi folks!

There's a Euro supplies thread in the tips section. You can get PL Premium in the UK.
Tweeters are hell expensive, I think it works out cheaper to get them mailed by Leland.

Ramsbottom - that's where the Mrs's brother lives.
Local lumber yards should have PL - I much prefer the 30 minute stuff to the 5 minute stuff. I've never used the premium as the normal adhesive works fine for me.
Good ply and a straight cut are a recipe for success in my book. I was never one to take my time but steady as she goes for the first few cabs until you understand how and why we do things.
I may start a recruitment drive for Yorkshire folk.

I'm honorary Yorkshire, I spent 8 years in Leeds and I still miss the place now despite having moved 'home' 4 years ago.
Anyway welcome!
For a PL replacement we've used this to great success: http://tinyurl.com/c37lvns

Re: Hello from dreary Lancashire UK!!!
Thanks for the welcomes and the great info guys, much appreciated!! Looking further into Leland's site has definitely made me think about buying the DR and Jack kits outright...and, dare I say, maybe even the flat-packs for the Jacks!!! (i promise to try the hard way first!!)
Charles, I work in an acoustic guitar/vocal duo and run several acoustic open mic nights during the week...I have several pairs of full range passive cabs (rcf arts, ev, martin audio amongst others)...they're all great in their own way, especially the Martins, but I would like a solution to fulfill the requirements of larger venues without breaking my back, hence me wanting to try the DR's for size...
Has anyone on here done comparisons with BF designs against popular cabs such as the RCF art300's etc etc?
Thanks again folks!

G'day Mark and welcome to the forum
There's heaps of good info here, and lot's of good help!
Not neccessarily the cabs you have quoted, but...
The "general" SPL charts section has comparisons:

Other comparisons may be found here:

Re: Hello from dreary Lancashire UK!!!
I don't know the frequency response of a low E on acoustic guitar, but the fundamental is around 82Hz. DR200's are tops - they would normally be run with a sub. If anyone were to plug a bass in on your acoustic gigs, it might be lacking. The jacks are however full range. I've done quite a bit of open mic some years ago with 2 mates - thaey were acoustic guitars/ vocals, me on violin. We don't play often but have a rare gig in Whitefield on 8th December.

Re: Hello from dreary Lancashire UK!!!
Charles, I think the Jacks are going to be the first of the pairs to be honest, looking at Hz range of them...which pub in Whitefield? My gigging partner lives in Prestwich, just around the corner...,
Re: Hello from dreary Lancashire UK!!!
Grant, thanks for the links regarding comparisons...the more I read, the more I want to get moving on with my builds!!! I'm very lucky indeed that my next door neighbour is a French Polisher and has his own unit that he has offered to share with me during my builds, as long as I keep him in teabags!!!:) Result!!!
