				T39 Slim x2

Well, finally, here we are - my first BFM build. These are going to be loaded with some Eminence OEM's that are pretty similar to the BP102-4. I'm building the pair simultaneously, so the pics apply to both cabs.
Day 1's work - chamber completed.
Plenty of squeeze out
Not all that visible in this shot, but the ply has a really nice figure, almost quilted. Almost seems a shame to cover it up with Tuffcab.
Day 2 coming up.

OK, the second day got me to this point.
Fixing panel 5 into place, and that quilt again.
Panel 6 and extension fitted, plus some nice bracey goodness

The second cab, sitting on top of the subs they'll be replacing, a pair of 90's Peavey Megasubs.
The T39's take up almost as much volume as the Megasubs (11.4 cubic feet as opposed to 12 for the Peavey) but weigh a good bit less, and will be a lot easier to move about.
Watch this space, as they say.

Very neat clean build so far

Can you tell me why there's only one 3-5 brace though?
With the minimum width cab for a 10" driver being 13", IIRC the plans say there should be one brace for every 6-8" (except for the 4-6 brace), so there should be 2 braces.
It's impossible to change once the cab is finished, and doesn't add much weight wise for 2 braces to be there.
How wide is your cab(s) going to be?

My T39's are 14" outside dimension...and I used a single 1/4" brace in a dado routed into the panels. That is more than sufficient. The brace is 6.5" from either side panel.

I spot a very heavy looking peavey sub.. Nice finish on the ply, is that veneered?

Are you referring to the pic with the brace at the top (pic 1 from day 2)? It wasn't fixed there, I was just using it to hold the panel in the right place. The cabs are 13" wide, so they only need the one brace.

Yeah, those Peavey's are a bit on the weighty side. The ply is just standard 12mm birch, it just happens to have a nice grain pattern on the outer layer on one side. As I said, almost seems a shame to cover it up

I was referring to the later pic with the brace in situ, but it's all good. I wasn't sure how "slim" your slim was.

If the quilted pattern is on all the outer panels I'd be sorely tempted to put a nice clear finish on!

Looks like you did'nt use any screws so far... "natural" finish might be apealing to customers too as opposed to black boxes for weddings etc... if thats your bussiness.

I think white is a great color...its interesting the norm is black when most bands and DJ's are doing weddings, not funerals. Natural finish is nice too

White is nice for a permanent install in some venues, but they tend to start looking ratty after getting scuffed up from handling and rubbing in the back of a truck. I suppose you could get quilted covers made that will hold off the inevitable for awhile. The same goes for a varnished finish. I stained and laquered some cabinets years ago; they looked beautiful for a few months and then promptly got painted black.
Black harkens back from standard theater practice - If you want it to blend into the background shadows, paint it black.
You've done a fine job in construction. It's the little details like neatly cleaning up the glue squeeze out afterwards that show professionalism.

I take pretty good care when moving them...but I see how they could get scuffed easily being white. The nice thing is it only takes a few minutes to white wash any scuffs every now and then.
How's the build coming along Alien?

Slowly. Didn't get much done during the week (life getting in the way again), then rain stopped play a bit this weekend.
Here's the current state of things:
Back on and braces fitted.
Spot the deliberate mistake... I forgot to add on the 1/2" for the ply when I routed out the back handles. Bugger. Oh well, 3/4" handles will have to do.
All wired up, just a few flanges to go, then the other sides go on

More updates as stuff happens
