Does open box behave like open baffle?

I'm trying to build a line array with pvc fence post. One of the drivers I was considering only works well in a HUGE box or as open baffle. If I leave both ends of the post open will the speaker behave as an open baffle? Perhaps drilling holes in the back would succeed in making it more like an open baffle? (Otherwise the driver makes a huge bump in the midbass...) Thanks all for advice.

No, only an open baffle will work as an open baffle.
