Splitting one 24" T39, making into 2 16" T39s

#1 Post by Harley »

Due to popular demand, here’s a photo shoot of splitting a 24” wide T39 loaded with 2 BP102s and making into 2 16” wide T39s by adding extensions to make more versatile, maximise pack space and allow for vee plating.

This work is not for the faint hearted, but it shows what can be done if you're adventurous and a bit off the rails like me

Betcha wouldn't do that again in a hurry

But for cranking out multiples of a sub it seems like it could work wonders. Mucho planning aforthought.

From what I remember when you originally posted, it was pointing out the dreaded 'brads to nowhere'.

Amusingly, I still have a copy of these pictures saved on my computer. Apparently I thought it so remarkable I needed an archive for myself.

I'm still amazed you did it. When I first saw it (and again now) I thought, who'd want to go through the work of sawing it in half, and then going through practically all the steps of building a new one. It doesn't seem worthwhile to me as just building 2 new cabs would probably be equal amounts of work, but hey if my cabs would look as nice as those bifurcated ones maybe I should start practicing my magician skills. :chainsaw:

Does anyone else see economy of effort in building one quadruple wide and chopping up into 2 duals then 4 singles?

If by economy you mean frustration as you try to keep a 5' board glued square. I can barely keep my 20'' panels square...

In theory is sounds great though. I'd almost consider it for building slims, make a 30'' and cut it down to 15''... as long as your measuring is as fastidious as Harley's. Otherwise you'd end up with some wonky cabs and some tired arms. :P

or a 60" wide 4x12 and chopping it in half...That'd be a site to see.

Excellent work again Harley!
