What else is out there for brickwall-limiting besides the Behringer DCX2496 and DBX Driverack 260? Just curious. Anything under $300?

While some say the dbx PA or PA+ doesn't have brickwall limiting - I've never been able to get the voltage to go past my limit even when shoving the master fader all the way to the top of the red.

Does that include maxing out the input sensitivity on your amp?

I don't honestly think I need anything more than the dbx Driverack PA+ or PX. Just feel like I'd sleep better at night with a brickwall limiter.

Any compressor that has 20:1 or higher ratio and 0ms attack is considered a brick wall limiter. That covers almost every modern compressor.

I seem to recall the reason the dbx wasn't considered a brick wall was because it didn't have the 0ms attack. Although I read that a long time ago and I'm not getting any younger so YMMV.

My amps are ALWAYS wide open. Too much room for error any other way. Last Saturday, I was running a rock band outside and the limiter was kicking in occasionally on the kick drum....

I've played 'em outside several times at full tilt and have never blown anything up. I do give myself some room though. I'm limit the 3012LFs at 56 volts instead of the allowed 60.

I wouldn't spend the extra money unless you really need the additional features of a 260.

The BBE DS24 will be under $300, you may find one used cheaper

The newer model BBE DS26 is under $300 new.

There are other brands as well...

I figured the dbx PA+/PX would be enough, was just being paranoid. Thanks for the reassurance.

I use the BEHRINGER ULTRAMIZER PRO DSP1400P. You can get them for less than $100.

I see that has brick wall limiting, but it's not also a crossover with HP and LP though is it?

I think his intention was to use the DriveRack with an additional limiter, to achieve a wall of bricks.

A used driverack will do everything you need. Don't fret.

Even though there have been posts about the driverack not being a brickwall limiter - I've yet to see anyone post that they've blown a speaker while using one.

It's not designed to be a crossover, but it will perform that function as well (either broadband high pass or low pass). There's no info about what the slope is on it, though. I suspect its 12db or less per octave.

so i have a chance to buy a Driverack PA+ FOR $200,brand new still in the box.I briefly looked in the manual online and didn't see anything about high pass and low pass filters.I plan to use this with my T-39's and am wondering if i should buy this or just buy another DCX 2496.What do u guys think ?

There's a crossover. You can set HP/LP on the L, M, H outputs. So yes -- you can use it with T39s.
