Can you use any microphone to setup the drpa+ or do you have to buy the reference mike.

I use a small pencil condenser. The results are only as accurate as the mic, but I suspect how you aim it probably has more influence on frequency and phase response than the difference between my drum overheads and a proper calibrated RTA mic. It has certainly gotten close enough for my purposes.

Ideally, you can pick up a Dayton reference mic for ~$50. Until then, use what you have. Phantom power is provided.

New question, how do you set the crossover point in the drive rack pa+? I've read the manual and it doesn't really tell you how to set it.

Push the XOVER button. Now pushing the data wheel will move over one prompt and the turning the wheel will change the setting. First thing up is the lows. Once you set the High pass hz, xover type, and db/octave - push the NEXT button. That moves you to the lows for the lowpass - set that. Push NEXT again to set the highs. It's that easy.

oh.....and be sure and do the store function after any changes you make. It will not retain the last thing you did if it's not stored.

Measurement microphones are designed to be flat, most others are designed to "color" the sound. So yes, for best results, use the measurement mic. If you just wanna play around with it or get some rough tunnings, the small pencil condensers might work best are they seem to be flatter than the rest.

Ok, got the drive rack set up with mains and subs and saved the settings. Next question, is any way to set up a preset with just mains and no subs for the places that we only mike voices?

Sure, just go to another preset and do the same operation you just did with no subs hooked up. Save it as "Tops Only" or something like that.

Or, just hit save on the one you already did, then when it prompts with the setting number, turn the dial to another number - hit store again, then name the new setting. When you want to switch between settings, hit program, turn the wheel until you get the setting you want and and push the rotary wheel in. That loads the new setting.

Then, you'll want to go the xover setting and take out the crossover point or lower it some to put a little more low end in the tops. May want to go to EQ and tweak the bottom end a little there too. Hit save and you're done.

Hope that made sense.

Just finished our first outdoor show with the drive rack pa+. Everyone said it was the best we have ever sounded. Eq setup for flat and changed a little on the board. Thanks for all the replies and answers to questions.
