I am sorry if this has been covered before but I can't seem to find it..... I am doing sound next week for a hard rock band and will be running their PA. Is wall loading beneficial with front loaded subs as well as horns? I believe I will be working with a pair of 2 X 18's.

There is not a lot of time from haul in to show start so I am just trying to minimize placement time.
Thank you in advance for any opinions (or facts).
Dan

Re: Wall Loading
The only difference is they don't couple like horns so v-plating is off the menu. Walls and corners work identically, splitting distances and modes are same.

Re: Wall Loading
Direct radiating subs will in fact couple, just like horns, however the effect may not be as pronounced or as beneficial as with horns. Not sure the exact number.

There's a big difference between mutual coupling and using multiple horns. Multiple horns go lower than one, multiple direct radiators don't.ryan222h wrote:Direct radiating subs will in fact couple, just like horns, however the effect may not be as pronounced or as beneficial as with horns. Understood. The 3db mutual coupling gain still trumps the 5hz or so in lower extension, and is still way better than placing them far apart, no?

Re: Wall Loading
ok, sounds like a good place to start. I am also assuming since it is a fairly small venue, placing the subs one on top another, facing a wall or corner, will yield better results than flanking the stage and wall loading 2 separate walls? I have never been in the place so I don't know how wide apart the walls will be but since the definition given to me was "small club" one must assume <50 feet.

I still don't have much of a handle on small rooms. Small or low ceilings get more problems with modes and you can end up splitting subs to make the best of it.
