Space Considerations

#1 Post by BoH »

I live in a small apartment, the closest shop facilities I have are about 100 miles from my home and I just can't take that beating every weekend with a baby in hand and one on the way, neither can my wife.

Do any of you build in small spaces? Any nuggets of wisdom to share? I was considering an OT15, but now I'm leaning towards a DR250 and a Titan to compliment it. I want to get the best possible cabs available.

Thanks again.

I am building a DR250 in my kitchen...large kitchen and no wife or babies. and I have made a beautiful pile of sawdust. DR about 1/2 way done. Study the plans until they make sense. Some of it did not make sense to me until I just jumped in and started. ( I am not a carpenter but a disabled retired computer engineer who has built a few "regular" speaker cabs, which I am selling off as quick as I can.) Good luck!

During the summer, I build under a shade trade by the swimming pool. My portable work bench is 3x5 feet, and big enough.

I've done the kitchen thing also, but make sure to clean up well to keep the missus happy. Dust in the kitchen is more of a problem, and much more work to clean up. I will do glue-up indoors when the heat is unbearable outside.

I build mine out of the basement of our townhouse. I got a Ryobi BT3100 table saw that just fits through the back door and is light enough to carry in and out. Most of the other tools are in a rolling tool chest but I'm still at 20 min set up and another 1/2 hr to blow off all the sawdust and pack it back inside. My wife has a heart condition and doesn't come down to the basement much so I can get away with more mess than many of you.
What I'd give for a garage!

Someday, I want a Norm workshop. 24 x 30, big doors, lots of very cool but toally unecessary equipment like a mortis cutter.
Me too, but here in Kaleefornia, 24 x 30 is considered a buildable lot, and out of my price range.

Oh jeez... that must be what happened. I went for the Quote button, hit the Edit button, and screwed your post.

My humble apologies
