Quality of Hardware Kits

#1 Post by Nordo »

I was wondering if someone could comment on their experience with the full BFM hardware kits you can buy online.

Are there any other outlets than SpeakerHardware, and what is the quality of items such as crossovers, melded arrays, etc?
Cheers :)

In two words: the best. The pre-made crossovers are well-made and very nice-looking to boot. I have 4 of them waiting to go in DR280s. Very sexy red coils! :hyper:

Send Leland at Speaker hardware an email. He runs a great operation.

Leland's stuff is top notch. If you go with him you can get everything you need in one place. If you decide to find stuff locally piece by piece you might end up spending more time than it's worth. The bright side is you don't have to have your items shipped to China like UROK does.

Leland has a lot of experience building these cabs and has compiled what you need and doesn't mess around with what you dont. His service is second to none.

The only product I have gotten from him that I have not been totally sold on was the 1/4" jacks. They are plastic and the nut that hold them on just doesnt hold up to cords getting tripped on etc. They have not broken, just the nut comes loose and you need to re-tighten it. I have not looked to see if he offers other alternatives as I am moving everything over to speakon.

Drop him a line, you wont be sorry.

...plus he gives you service like on-one else does, especially on the very rare occasions when he screws up

Thanks Guys.
That's what I was hoping to hear.
I'm not worried what the Xovers look like, so long as they can handle prolonged power and the caps are quality.

Nordo is in Australia.
Potentially that is as bad, or worse, than China...
Obviously he has decided what he wants lol

Grab yourself some of this stuff (or similar):

Marvel as you never have to tighten them ever again! I use this an awful lot on various mountain bike bolts. Lifesaver.

I have those because I had a bad time with the original style metal ones, even neutrik brand. This is the first I've heard of them working loose. Glue it in place, carry a spare. If it breaks they're only a buck.

Yeah, places like Repco have it. Actually I have an old bottle in a cupboard somewhere (probably all dried up :conf: ).

Hi Leland.
It's not the cost. It's the annoyance when it happens in the middle of a gig. Anyway, I'll be ordering speakons (they are good quality, aren't they? ).
