Titan 48's and DR200's -

#1 Post by Beat Radness »

Right on. Figured I'd start a build thread here as I have learned a lot reading other builds. I usually like to motor through my projects, but I'll try to chillax and grab some photos here and there.

Got some arauco 1/2" from lowes this past weekend on a road trip to the beach. None of the local stores stock it.

Anyway, started construction yesterday on the titan 48's. Decided on 20" width to fit 2 wide in an average wagon/suv between wheel wells, and keep them small enough to move around by myself without too much :wall: . Got the sides cut, layed out, and pilot holes drilled. Tops are cut out and I opted for a single handhold center in top rear of the cabs. Used a holesaw and jigsaw. Picking up borrowed router thursday, thanks dad, so will get all my handholds looking nice before I start assembling. The Baffles are made as well, just need to make anchor rings, and get that together. I made a 2'x4' table saw sled/jig which is helping with panel cuts. 20" wide panels are a lot easier for me to work with by myself than the 24" sides were. Something to keep in mind if your wondering how big to build.

Thanks Leland, got a couple of boxes in from speakerhardware.com :hyper: . The 3015lf's are just impossible light. The delta 8pro's feel trice as heavy. Super pumped on the decision to go with the 3015's over the lab12's as I had originally planned. Also going to be building melded array dr200's next.

Behringer dcx2496 on the way. And I picked up a nice used QSC RMX2450 for a good price. Sooooo.............it's starting to come together. Learning a lot and having fun. Cant wait to hear this radness,

Congrats on starting your build.I'm sure somebody is gonna recommend that you build your melded arrayed boxes first then build your flat arrays but it depends on how close your audience will be from the DR200's.
Built:
2 Autotuba's MCM 55 2421
8 T48's 24"wide 3015 LF
2 DR 250's melded Deltalite II 2510
2 DR 250's flat Deltalite II 2510
2 SLA HT systems
1 Table Tuba Dayton DCS 255-4
2 T 39's 20" wide 3012 LF
1 T-18 13" wide MCM 55 2421
2 SLA Pro's

It's crazy. And the 3015 is a phenomenal driver. Eminence really hit it out of the park with the 30xx series.
If it's too loud, you're even older than me! Like me.

Got the driver anchors installed and panels 2,3,and 4 in place this evening. Got a router but need to get a roundover bit for it tomorrow. Lazy on the pictures. I will pull out the camera tomorrow and get some shots.

1/2" roundover bit is what I need right? Will that work on the handholds as well? Seems like I would need a 1/4" and round both sides over to meet in the middle. I'll read and see what I need.

Right on. Had a good weekend of building and not too many oops yet. Got one t48 mostly done, and have been cutting panels for the second as I go. Not enough workspace to have two of these underway at once. gotta decide where to put my jackplates, and finish up my access panel cover, put the other side on side on. Hopefully the next time I make dust I will have this one pretty much together and ready for paint. I have to say its a fun process. Stow going, but totally doable of you pay attention. Been dealing with some warping a little on the auroco panels, but hopefully it will all go together as intended. I think I'm getting a decent warm up on these to tackle the dr200's next. Probably going to build my amp rack/case thing in between so I can not have my amp and crossover taking my synth's normal place on the studio table. Will keep updated and try to get some pics up soon.

Right on. Still going at it. My girlfriend admitted last night to being slack about taking pictures for me. I havent wanted to stop and take pics since her camera is wicked nice and I dont want it anywhere near my dust and pl glue covered hands and workspace. Will try to get some up soon.

Anyway, did some sanding and routering last night. First t48 is pretty much done. Little more touch up sanding then primer and assembly. The second is about 90% there and about ready to put the second side on. I also build a small rack for my amp and crossover with a space for a second amp later. Got through the router learning curve on that before starting on the t48. Good call since I had a clamp slip a little that was holding a my guide in place and took out a little gouge that I had to fill and resand today once its cured.

Super fun project. Looks like the the pair of subs will be done in about 3 weeks of building when I've had time. Cant wait to fire them up, then start the dr200's next.

Got all my cables done and soldered up as well.

One thing thats been covered, but I will mention in case someone else is comtemplating a build. Use epoxy on the back on the driver bolt nuts. I originally used pl on the first, but had a couple of them spin out while test mounting the driver once I got it all torqued down. Used epoxy and seems to be holding better. Hopefully will all go well on final bolting in.

Woohooo, almost done with my first 2 speakers.

Wooohoooo. :loler: :hyper: Finished the first T48 a few days ago. Been playing around with it, but everything inside rattles above 10 volts. Rolled it outside this afternoon for a bit. Simply awesome. Pushed about 45 volts and it sounded clean and mean.

Cant wait to get the rest done. Glued and screwed the second side on the other sub tonight so it isnt far behind. Another couple of days and that one should be done and ready for paint. My girlfriend likes to paint, so I primed them white and she is going to do some designs on them for me. Then its time to get to work on the dr200's.

Really enjoying the build so far, just taking my time and trying not to rush with excitement to get them done. It would suck to be in a hurry.
