Am I paying too much for BB???

#1 Post by stinkfinger »

I just purchased 2 sheets of 4'X8' 1/2" BB from a local cabinet maker. @ 60 bucks a sheet should I do more searching for a supplier or is this typical of cost? This is the cost for me to pick up locally at the builders workshop. He just ordered with his normal order so as to no incur any added expense. Seems pricey to me but I'm not familiar in purchasing baltic birtch.

Thanks,
Dan

Last 4x8 I bought was $32, and last 5x5 was $23.

Did you go to a true wholesaler that supplies cabinet shops, etc? Or, did you get it from a shop that marked it up?

28$ CAD for a very nice quality 5x5. I get a discount if it has cosmetic damages.

Damn you guys.. B/BB ply is extremely expensive here in Denmark!

OP, if you refer to our prices, 60$ is a bargain, hehe.. 12mm B/BB grade baltic birch around here is something like 125$ :)

$43 here, but I live on an island and everything has to come across a very expensive ferry. It costs $50 just to bring a car across from the mainland.

I'm in the Twin Cities. Menards sells (or used to) 4x8 sheets for $48. The local cabinetmakers lumberyard sells 1/2" BB for $43/sheet. That's a function of the local wholesaler, I believe: Industrial Ply up the street from me sells 3/8" BB for $28/sheet; extrapolate to 1/2", and you're looking at $37 or $38 per sheet at wholesale.

The price has gone up in Las Vegas from about $22 per 5x5 to $30 in the last 5 months. These prices are at 2 different lumber yards. Something in the market has caused the price jump.

Most likely the extensive flooding last summer in the midwest. BB is also used a lot in cabinets and lots of homes need to be rebuilt due to floods. Supply and demand...
