Wedgehorns old and new

#1 Post by CBIERN »

Building
I completed my second set of Wedgehorns last week and gave them their 1st airing Saturday night. These were built from the updated plans (July?) with the 3D drawings which made it a lot easier getting the angles correct when cutting the horn parts. Getting rid of the little flat spot at the back made much more sense. the only Dooh moment was inexplicably having to make new access panels because I made the first too small.
One note: the top and bottom (wide) access flange pieces need a 22° edge to attach to their respective panels with no gap.
It took me a month to get the first pair done but the second pair took only four days. (Could have been less but the days are shorter.)
Using
As the old ad read, "They laughed when I sat down at the piano, but Oh when I began to play......) Perhaps I should put a grill on the front to hide the peizos and not prejudice the "great unwashed" before they have a chance to hear them.
After years of using JBL Eons both on the floor and as side fills the Wedgehorns easily ate their lunch and sent them home crying! I had two wedgehorns for each singer (with another a pair I'd built 2 months ago) and they were in heaven. The female singer said she'd be fine with one but she doesn't move a lot. The male singer with two at his feet and the spill from the others couldn't help but hear and had an easier night singing because of it. He didn't have to stress his voice trying to project over the stage volume so he had lots more voice left at the end of the night. The sound man commented that he didn't have to progressively bump his vocal up as the night went on because he didn't run out of gas.
I'd let my brother-in-law use the older pair on a couple of his gigs and his guitar player made him share after the first set when he heard what they were like.
Oh, and four wedgehorns pack in the space of 2 Eons and weigh less!
